Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Design Engineer or a Principal Design Engineer (Aeronautical) to join our team of diverse professionals supporting major defense programs located at Rancho Bernardo, CA.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Review non-conformances, including technical dispositions (repair/rework descriptions)

* Assist Quality and Liaison Engineering in interpretation of existing engineering requirements

* Assist Liaison Engineering in development of complex repair dispositions, including modelling of repairs where required

* Coordinate with other technical engineering disciplines (e.g Stress Analysis, Materials and Processes, etc.)

* Support of additional contractually required activities related to sell-off of completed product

* Design major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations

* Develop basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal

* Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost

* Make layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures

* Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning

* Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies

* Recommend revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers

Basic Qualifications:

For the Engineer level: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 2 years of engineering experience; OR Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline

* For the Principal Engineer level: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of related experience; OR 3 years of related experience with a Masters Degree in a STEM discipline

* Experience with at least 1 CAD design tool

* Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution

* Design and support to manufacturing of both metallic and composite structural parts

* Has Manufacture Review Board (MRB) Authority

* Experience processing non-conformances dispositions or providing engineering reach-back support to production of field service repairs

* Experience coordinating with suppliers on build-to-print activities and processing of Change Requests

* Experience in CATIA V5 CAD, Siemens Teamcenter (Enterprise and Unified) PDM/PLM systems, and Manufacturing Execution System (MES)

Salary Range: $87,200 - $130,800
Salary Range 2: $107,300 - $160,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
