Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector is looking for you to join our team as a Principal or Sr. Principal Software Engineer based out of Aurora, CO. MAC-D is a developing product line that uses signal processing and advanced analytics alongside RF hardware to capture and exploit signals of interest and provide mission-critical data to the users.
What You'll get to Do: We are looking for a Software Engineer experienced in Python and C/C++ and machine learning who wants to work on an agile development team using modern development practices tackling both new development and operational support of systems that advance National Security. Our Aurora campus has numerous programs in all phases on the development and operational lifecycle, from smaller single scrum team efforts to larger multi-team efforts, some that leverage remote teams from other Northrop Grumman sites. Many of our programs are using a micro-service event driven architecture using Docker Containers, Kubernetes. We are flexible and career growth focused permitting staff to either deepen skills on one program or seek other internal opportunities over time to broaden skills, experiences, and mission exposure.
About our organization: As a Software Engineer, you'll be joining our growing Aurora Software and Digital Engineering department which has 200+ Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Systems Administrator, Database Administrator, and Network Engineer peers from entry-level to the most senior chief engineers and architects. Principal Software Engineers frequently get into informal (example: Subject Matter Expert) and formal technical leadership roles within their programs, as applicable and per interest. We have plenty of opportunity for career advancement into higher level technical roles or leadership positions. Our Software Department is part of a larger organization that includes Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test staff as well as a Hardware Engineering unit. This larger organization influences cross-program collaboration, professional development and training, as well as engagement and inclusion activities such as lunch-n-learns, campus events, and leadership mixers.
Roles and Responsibility: Define, develop, and deliver novel mathematical and statistical modeling and algorithm products to tackle the challenges of prediction, optimization, and classification. Apply machine learning algorithms to large sets of structured and unstructured data to solve a broad range of problems that include applications in pattern recognition, target detection and tracking, machine learning and decision systems, and false alarm mitigation. Prototype advanced artificial intelligence techniques to stretch the capability of autonomous systems research and development programs. Design, develop, document, test and debug software and system applications that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional team to deploy machine learning algorithms to prototype testing and production. Ensure industry best practices and standards are applied and maintained. May use system-of-systems and multi-agent approaches to architect and design AI software systems. Work closely with AI Systems Engineers to understand program intent, system capabilities, and output requirements. May implement software-systems, applications, and data architectures that directly leverage AI techniques to support achieving better reliability, precision, accuracy, and speed to meet performance requirements. Will need to execute tasks on schedule. And candidate will need effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
This role will be full-time and onsite in Aurora, Co. Remote work is not an option. This role can be filled at a level 3 or level 4, based on experience and skillset.
Basic Qualifications:

Principal level 3: Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 5+ years of relative experience; Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relative experience; PhD + 1 year of relative experience. An additional 4 years of experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
* Sr. Principal level 4: Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 8+ years of relative experience; Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 6+ years of relative experience; PhD + 4 year of relative experience. An additional 4 years of experience can be considered in lieu of degree
* Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance required at time of application
* Candidate must be able to obtain a Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI-Poly)
* Ability to meet customer-specific security screening requirements within a timeframe set forth by management
* Experience working in Python and C/C++
* Familiarity with AI technologies and methodologies, including machine learning, deep learning, and convolutional neural nets
* Experience implementing software-systems, applications, and data architectures that directly leverage AI techniques to support achieving better reliability
Preferred Qualifications:

Background in Software Development and/or Software Engineering with an Agile/DevSecOps mindset
* Experience with Git-based software configuration management tools
* Experience with PyTorch, Tensorflow, and/or other equivalent machine learning libraries
* Experience with Transformers, CNNs, DNNs
* Experience utilizing LLMs and pattern of Life
* Experience with rapid prototyping and implementation
* Experience in algorithmic application development and optimization
* Experience with developing for SWaP-constrained environments
* Experience with open software/system architecture solutions
* Experience with Linux operating systems
* Experience with CUDA and GPUs
* Experience with high performance numerical/scientific computing, parallel computing
* Experience with containerization
Salary Range: $133,500 - $200,300
Salary Range 2: *$166,200 - $249,400
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
