As the Learning Technologist Team Lead, your main role will be to manage the Learning Technology team, who administrate, configure and upload digital content onto Learning Management Systems (LMS).

As our Learning Technologist Team Lead, you will:

Team Lead:

  • Management: Oversee and manage resourcing, time-logging, leave requests and training of the Learning Technology Team.
  • Performance management: Monitor and ensure job specifications, competencies, skills matrix, team charter, high level career map and KPIs and priorities are created for each team member per quarter.
  • Career development: Tailor career growth and upskilling to target skills gaps and/or growth areas. Select appropriate courses/classes/programs and agree on budgeted time/cost.
  • Onboarding and offboarding: Ensure appropriate procedures are in place and are executed during onboarding and offboarding.
  • Interviews. Provide appropriate interview questions and assessments to gauge the level of technical competency of candidates as well as host interviews when required.
  • Quality: Establish metric driven quality standards for your team and ensure they are understood, readily available to all staff, and regularly reviewed.
  • Quality & Communication. Hold regular team forums that contribute to building a culture oriented to trust, open communication, creating thinking, and cohesive team effort.

Gather information, opinions, and feedback from the team to raise outside of the team, such as PMO and HR as well as feedback directly to team members.
  • Ensure teams make effective use of their non-billable time designated for team improvement, and limit that time to only what is necessary.

Quality Assurance:

  • Provides final quality assurance for all deliverables related to the LMS Implementation Quality Assurance:
  • Implemented functionality (test cases)
  • Content setup
  • Reporting data to provide accurate and timely data status to meet client's needs.

LMS Configuration:

  • Sets up LMS platform configuration (Moodle, Blackboard and Canvas):
  • Users
  • Content
  • Communications
  • Learning analytics.
  • Leads the administration, configuration and maintenance of all domains in the LMS and related portal technologies.
  • Structures and deploys learning activities (web-based training content, curriculums, learning plans, etc.).
  • Deploys and manages content in the LMS and advises course owners on how the LMS can be used optimally while they create or update course content.
  • Develops and maintains naming conventions, knowledge banks and archiving systems related to the LMS.
  • Provides support in troubleshooting, investigating and seeking solutions to complex issues related to course implementation, LMS configuration, infrastructure and student support.
  • Ensures styling and course implementation per determined design specifications.
  • Maintains procedures and policies to ensure the security and integrity of the systems.
  • Gathers data, reviews & analyses data to improve system operations and practices.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging trends and approaches in the LMS market and utilises new methods.
  • Actively conducts virtual learning environment (VLE) research and innovation.

External Support:

  • Researches, advises and creates best LMS types / structure to determine the best solution to fit the client's needs.
  • Works with LMS partners / vendors for system enhancements and upgrades.
  • Provides training to clients on their LMS.

Internal Collaboration:

  • Collaborates with cross functional teams to inform, prepare, and assist in the review and testing of all system upgrades or patches.
  • Works with Project Managers/Learning Designers to produce hour/cost estimates for project outcomes that are relevant to a LMS.
  • Proactively looks for opportunities to support Learning Designers in the implementation
  • Provides LMS specific training to the Learning Technology Team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You have:

  • Degree in IT or related field; AND/OR 3-5 years administering an LMS system or related system.
  • Advanced understanding and use of Canvas LMS (Moodle/EdX/Blackboard experience an added bonus).
  • Experience in Education and/or Technology.
  • Basic understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Experience in course configuration settings.
  • Experience in technologies commonly used in business and quality analysis, including SQL, test automation tools like Selenium, application lifecycle management products like Microsoft TFS or GitLab.
  • Understanding and application of basic User Experience Design principles across desktop and mobile devices.
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Sheets).
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, rapidly changing, team-based environment.

Preferred Education /Experience/Skills:

  • Knowledge of the systems development lifecycle and/or ADDIE model.
  • Experience in working with clients to deliver on their needs.
