WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

As Virtual Material Designer, you'll serve as a Category and Design resource by driving 3d material creation from ideation to manufacturing for Footwear. You will work on the Virtual Material Design team within the Digital Design Studio of Consumer Product Brand Marketing Operations (CPBMO).

You will collaborate with 3D counterparts and category product creation teams on deliverables. You will create and present assets that effectively communicate Design's intent to a variety of audiences. Additionally, you will provide technical expertise and process support to Design, Development, Engineering and Innovation teams. You will provide support for Design staff as needed to execute seasonal and Code moment deliverables. You will partner with the category to set project, team and individual priorities that align with departmental/functional goals and drive material creation from ideation to manufacturing for Footwear and creating 3d materials and visualizations for products and experiences.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Virtual Material Designer to join our team at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. Aspects of Nike's digital evolution hinge on the ability of the Virtual Material Design team to leverage digital tools in x team collaborations to expand ideation, accelerate early concepting and amplify design intent for new Nike materials. Ideal candidate is naturally curious and excited to thrive as part of a strong, high-functioning team to deliver design and business results through understanding the value of sharing information and by constantly learning from those around you to build skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education, experience and training
  • 3+ years of experience in a related 3D field or 2+ years of experience working with 3D digital workflow teams at Nike.
  • Portfolio demonstrating ability to create and render high quality realistic 3D assets.

Knowledge of 3D software specific to the 3D Material Design process:

  • Proficient in 3D material authoring in DCC tool of choice, (Substance Designer or equivalent preferred).
  • Proficient at understanding the interaction between color, materials, and light.
  • Proficient at look development and rendering, (Maya/Vray or equivalent preferred).
  • Familiarity in creating parametric materials using Substance Designer.
  • Familiarity with real-time and path-tracing render engines.

Learning best practices as defined by the business for the creation of 3D Materials:

  • Works with the Manager and gathers information necessary from partners to ensure 3D Concept Materials are following best practices.

With support, interprets Design sketches and creates concept materials:

  • Works on assigned projects, creating 3D Concept Materials of material designs.
  • Partners with the Manager and Design to ensure potential design issues can be resolved properly.
  • Very strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

With guidance from the Manager and Sr members of the team you will work with Design Partners on Priority Projects, Special initiatives and Immersive Experiences. You will create and present assets that effectively communicate Design's intent to a variety of audiences. Additionally, you will provide technical expertise and process support to Design, Development, Engineering and Innovation teams. You will provide support for Design staff as needed to execute seasonal and Code moment deliverables. You will partner with 3D Design and the Fields of Play to set project, team and individual priorities that align with departmental/functional goals and collaborate on project teams Cross-Engine to achieve milestones and objectives.

Learning how to interpret Design sketches to understand how to approach a 3D Material. Work with the Manager to figure out solutions for design:

  • Experience communicating in a multi-disciplinary team, including engineers, artists, and designers.
  • Develop innovative solutions to simple challenges.
  • Understand Product Creation and Design. Learning how to inform Design where products may need to be modified before material creation, allows the design to resolve issues themselves.

Learning Standards to guide direction on final deliverables:

  • Learning the concept material design process and referring to standards. Works with their manager to ensure work is being delivered properly.

Work-based on a single project across a single engine:

  • Work focuses on the current project they are working on.
