Who You Will Partner With...

Partnering across the North America geography team, you will report directly to the VP of North America Retail. You will interact across other leaders in North America inclusive of corporate and field Retail colleagues.

This is an individual contributor role. That said, you will be influencing heavily across the enterprise.

What You'll Work On

The Senior Principal, North America Retail Connections plays a key role in our strategy to drive the internal and external narrative for North America Nike Direct. This role leads our field communication strategy for store employees in the U.S. and Canada, including overseeing communication channel strategy, executive communications and content creation. It also supports the North America Communications team with media and broad-reaching employee initiatives as needed, including media relations, comprehensive plans around store openings, and issues management. You will provide subject matter expertise in support general communications initiatives as needed, including broader-reaching employee engagement and media events.

You will drive the overall strategy for informing, inspiring, and engaging 15,000-20,000 field employees in the Nike Direct Stores organization across the U.S. and Canada. Leading with vision, you will help create the future of field communications at Nike.

  • Identify, lead editorial planning and channel strategy for and manage day-to-day of new and existing field communications channels
  • Offer communications expertise as consultant for key functions including store operations and consumer service teams, directly impacting operations of stores
  • Promote recognition programing through employee storytelling
  • Lead planning for the annual store manager conference, including creating messaging, executive communications planning, identifying and arranging keynote speakers, and overseeing logistics
  • Execute executive communications for key North America Nike Direct leaders
  • Support general communications initiatives as needed, including broader-reaching employee engagement and media events
  • Drive communications support around store openings and closures
  • Be a subject matter expert on our brick & mortar business, including having a strong awareness of brand activity
  • Know and understand our audiences, including regularly connecting across the organization to identify communications needs and visiting stores as needed

Who We Are Looking For...

  • 10+ years' professional experience in high profile corporate communications or public relations roles supporting globally branded organizations
  • Proven ability to communicate plans across a complex matrix on a corporate, regional and functional basis, including presenting before audiences of various sizes
  • Excellent writing, strategic planning and editorial management skills combined with speed, flexibility, and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to write for a variety of audiences, identify priority audiences and target communication appropriately
  • Experience initiating and driving the ideation process, contributing meaningful, innovative strategies to the business at concept stage
  • Experience helping to lead communications strategy for major events and across multiple vendor relationships
  • Deep understanding of both evolving consumer communications environment and digital landscape, including social media
  • On-the-ground media/PR experience with ability to communicate clearly as a company spokesperson both on and off camera
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, in particular PowerPoint and Keynote preferred.
  • Strong written and spoken English required
  • Ability to travel, up to 20%

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of/experience in retail
  • Experience creating communications for a decentralized, remote-based workforce
  • Experience working on high-profile consumer brands
  • Knowledge of sports culture, footwear or apparel industry
  • High aptitude for creative thinking, balanced against bottom-line business needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and develop consensus within diverse groups and with people at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to understand challenges or underlying concerns, share ideas, and develop effective responses, or elevate to higher management
