Senior Climate & Environmental Consultant

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We're looking for a Senior Climate & Environmental Consultant position. The role is based in Vietnam to help drive programs and initiatives with our suppliers (Tier 1, Tier 2, Footwear, Apparel, Material) in collaboration with other stakeholders internally (Engineering, Manufacturing, Material, Sustainability Deployment Team) and externally (Service consultant, Non-governmental Organization) to support Nike's corporate public target on Climate and Environment (Water, Waste, Carbon...). The candidate needs to have competitive competencies in regards to Environmental Experience, Manufacturing Experience, Problem Solving, Deliver Results, Communicate & Influence Effectively, Innovation & Teamwork.

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?

You'll assist suppliers in achieving Nike's environmental goals for 2025 and 2030 by concentrating efforts on reducing waste, recycling waste, treating waste, recycling water, reducing water usage, replenishing water sources, and addressing other relevant impact areas outlined in the plan (such as climate and carbon emissions).

You're accountable for develop, lead, and coach the sustainability team of suppliers to ensure alignment with Nike's environmental strategy and objectives, and to achieve agreed-upon environmental targets and initiatives related to waste and water. The role will also require you to educate and promote business case for waste and water initiatives to both suppliers and Nike team in order to drive influence and impact. You'll lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams, both internal and external, to oversee waste and water projects.

Periodically involve suppliers in managing their performance to ensure they are accountable for achieving environmental target & initiatives related to waste and water, assist suppliers in overcoming obstacles through a problem-solving cycle (Plan - Do - Check - Action approach) to reach these goals. Monitor supplier progress and communicate it to the Nike team. Collaborate with suppliers to manage data effectively, ensuring that timely and accurate information is entered into the system and utilizing dashboards and data to facilitate problem-solving and action planning for improvement.

Develop supplier capabilities by providing direction, facilitation and coaching suppliers through learning community, individual coaching, and necessary training programs in line with Nike's strategic directions and common challenges. Besides, you'll require to interpret legislation and technical reports and provide coaching and guidance to supplier management teams/leadership teams for environment related matters and where required, maintain up to date knowledge and understanding of current legislation in the country of operation. Above all, you'll share the best practice among environmental team to ensure a consistent approach and promote a culture of improvement.

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?

You are responsible for leading project management efforts to drive improvement & achievement of corporate targets on water and waste with suppliers. This includes setting targets, developing strategies, creating plans, providing training, and conducting performance reviews. You will also work closely with external consultants and service providers to ensure project follow-up, engagement, and effective management. Additionally, you will collaborate with Nike sustainability teams at both the local and global levels, including deployment teams, reporting, collaboration, socialization, and escalation. Furthermore, you will engage with Nike manufacturing, engineering, and material teams to promote engagement, socialization, and collaboration.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Minimum 5 years of experience of Environmental issues, methodologies, management system and practices, with a focus on waste management, water reduction, water recycle, water replenishment, climate/carbon change initiatives.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operation, challenges and how to overcomes. Preferred ISO certificated, lean philosophy/certificate or management system thinking.
  • Effective communication and influencing to network internally and externally and influence key personnel in Vietnamese and in English.
  • Effective Problem Solving and Result Delivery to make sound decisions and timely deliver result. Ability to analyze data/develop dashboard (Tableau, Power BI) to make informed decisions.
