The NIKE Sport Research Lab - Greater China (NSRL GC) is a multidisciplinary team of researchers, innovators, and scientists who lead with science to generate detailed understanding of the Chinese athletes
and consumers. We deliver validated insights and state-of-the-art capabilities to drive the future of NIKE products and services. As diverse as our athletes and consumers are, our evidence-based solutions meet the constantly evolving demands of sport and life. We apply scientific methods and research results to drive new concepts and platforms across multiple Innovation teams, specifically targeted for our Greater China geography.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a Researcher Biomechanics. This role executes researches of our Biomechanics research program at NIKE Sports (China) aiming at a new and better understanding of the Chinese Athlete, leading to product and service innovation - through a portfolio of evidence-based research programs in the NIKE Sport Research Lab - Greater China. Our research will aim at providing measurable and palpable benefits for athletes
across gender and sport primarily focusing on our Greater China geography. You will drive understanding of the athlete experience with products and services by unlocking what product levers or cues drive the liking of those experiences. Areas of focus will be broad, focussing mainly on footwear attributes such as fit, comfort, cushioning, stability, responsiveness, and others.

The candidate needs to be able to grow into an applied, creative expert in the areas of Biomechanics and develop the ability to work with a diverse team of scientists and influence creative product and athlete service teams across NIKE.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

  • As a Researcher Biomechanics, you will be responsible for executing research projects (both applied and basic research).
  • A key aspect of the role is to generate a thorough understanding of the basic ergonomics, biomechanics and running behaviour of our athletes.
  • You will participate in the development of new tools, methods and procedures that will streamline data acquisition, processing and insight extraction.
  • You will become a resident expert for all of the Biomechanics research tools used by the Nike Sport Research Lab staff.
  • You will interact with Product Innovators and Business Functions to contribute to holistic evaluation of products and innovation concepts.
  • You will communicate research findings and insights to diverse audiences.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

  • You will work as an developing expert and respond to creative product and athlete service teams across Innovation and Business at NIKE.
  • You will versatily support NSRL GC Lead and Principal Researchers of the Biomechanics group at different points in the spectrum of concept development, from those looking to understand athlete Ergonomic and Biomechanics opportunities, to teams that have ideas and solutions in mind.
  • On a daily basis you will work "Hands-on" with research "execution" in collaboration with NSRL GC and NSRL WHQ teammates.
  • You will report on program progress and impactful insights with NSRL GC and NSRL WHQ teammates.
  • You will also support external research tasks in the field within Greater China.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • MSc in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Clinical Research or related field or respective BSc + 2 years of experience in research.
  • A detailed understanding of anatomy, biomechanical principles, experimental design and statistical procedures
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with tools used to collect biomechanical data (e.g. motion capture, force plates, pressure insoles, others)
  • Experience writing programs in Python and/or MATLAB to analyze biomechanical data is strongly preferred
  • Previous experience performing Biomechanics research with human subjects (scientific publications a plus).
  • Good communication and people skills.
  • Ability to engage with multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Previous experience with footwear and/or apparel testing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of footwear, apparel, and accessory product creation processes is a plus.
  • Working proficiency language capabilities in Chinese and English.
