Job description:

Nike Greater China is looking for a seasoned and highly motivated lawyer to join its Legal team based in Shanghai. The lawyer is anticipated to provide timely, efficient, and practical advice and support on the company's retail and fast developing new digital projects, to empower retail business and enable successful O2O transformation and/or digital innovations, who will also be window lawyer to Nike owned stores, real estate projects and insights & analytics on Chinese consumers, industry and products across Greater China region. Candidates with solid knowledge and abundant experience in the above areas are well preferred.

You will report to Director, Assistant General Counsel, GC and work in a broader Legal team in Greater China.

Highlights of this position:

You will:

  • accumulate in-depth knowledge and edge-cutting practical experience in retail (including real estate and retail operation), e- commerce, privacy and data protection, etc., through working with experts and talents in our Legal and Privacy, business and cross-functional teams sitting in both Greater China and headquarters in the US;
  • as core legal member, materially participate in the creation of our company's new retail and O2O transformation strategies and implementation of the innovative and edge-cutting projects for seamless consumer's O2O experiences;
  • help internal business partners manage and deal with most reputable and leading retail and digital commerce platforms, through working on most creative and edge-cutting projects;
  • get great exposure to both retail and digital/e-commerce business and also learn how to provide efficient and best practice solutions as a strategic thinker and down-to-earth practitioner.

Major responsibilities of this position:

You will:

  • support lifecycle of Nike Direct Stores, including retail real estate (lease, construction, design etc.), store operational and retail marketing issues, by closely partnering with Retail Business, Real Estate, Store Operation, Construction, Retail Concept and Services, Retail Marketing, Loss Prevention, Finance and other internal business colleagues to provide guidance and counseling on essential issues. Call out potential legal/business risks and suggest practicable solutions;
  • support Nike Direct Store in respect of O2O transformation and related matters including advising on business model, O2O terms, consumer journeys and providing legal guidance on essential issues;
  • support Nike Greater China social commerce business (including but not limited to Douyin and WeChat stores) in daily operation, advertising and promotions (e.g., Double 11, 618 and other key promotion windows), new digital project initiatives, commercial transactions and new channel expansion;
  • advise on digital compliance and privacy & data protection matters arising from retail and non-retail projects, in partnership with Nike's Privacy team in the daily business operation and new project launches;
  • support to manage or directly resolve various disputes including government challenges, consumer complaints, and litigations;
  • work with business stakeholders in evaluating current business processes and make practical recommendations for improvement;
  • keep updated to the fast-evolving Chinese laws and regulations and keep in routine connection and sound engagement with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to identify and get them alerted of the legal risks and advise on solutions;
  • properly manage outside counsels and vendors; and
  • support and advise on other assignments and matters which may arise from the teams you support and be assigned to you.

Requirements and qualifications of this position:

  • Bachelor of law degree from a top Chinese law school, admitted to practice law in China. Overseas legal education and qualification is preferred, but not required;
  • 5-8 years' commercial law practice experience in a multinational company and preferably, a top Chinese law firm, with solid knowledge, lawyering skills and practical experience in digital and retail areas;
  • Native mandarin speaker and fluent in English speaking and drafting;
  • Decent business acumen, good interpersonal and communicational skills with leadership and ownership;
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently under pressure and prioritize tasks, strategic thinking with down-to-earth problem-solving capability;
  • Good team player with good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with different levels of people throughout the company globally;
  • Able to work under pressure and handle multiple projects.
