Underwriting Production Supervisor

Overview

Assist Supervisor with assignment distribution, load balancing, planning and coordinating team schedules and collaborating with peers on other Underwriting Teams to maintain consistent and accurate operational applications. Oversees production, quality control, and assists with coaching and counseling employees. Provides mortgage underwriting consulting and expert advice to employees and all levels of management. *This position does not directly supervise employees, but supervises the production flow of an underwriting team's work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising, planning, directing, coordinating, and reviewing the work of Mortgage Underwriters engaged in the review and investigation of members' mortgage and equity loan applications to ensure accuracy, integrity, and quality
  • Assist in monitoring the underwriting and review process, communications, and activities to ensure compliance with appropriate State/Federal law as well as NFCU, investor, and government agency guidelines
  • Conduct quality review audits of loan files and documents to ensure adherence to all regulations and requirements
  • Assist with schedules, prioritization, and distribution of workflows for section(s) to ensure work is done in a timely manner and all deadlines are met
  • Act as a liaison to other areas of the organization with whom Underwriting interacts to resolve issues
  • Inform staff on changes to state/federal law as well as NFCU, investor, and government agency guidelines
  • Assist in monitoring and reviewing underwriting policies and practices to ensure compliance with state/federal law as well as NFCU, investor, and government agency guidelines
  • Recommend procedural changes; plan, organize, and implement changes
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to Mortgage Underwriters
  • Assist in supervising the implementation of procedures, policies, and strategies to optimize Navy Federal's underwriting programs and practices
  • Enhance Navy Federal ability to underwrite and clear loans to close by recommending and implementing efficiencies and timeliness in underwriting processes
  • Assist in monitoring changes and upgrades to systems and user acceptance testing
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of information shared internally and externally
  • Serve as team lead:
  • Assist with section operations and oversight of staff
  • Compile reports and/or production statistics
  • Provide input for performance appraisals
  • Mentor and guide team members
  • Assist in employee development and training
  • Act as supervisor/manager in the incumbent's absence
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of Underwriting, Mortgage law and regulations, and government agency guidelines
  • Expert knowledge of mortgage products such as mortgage loans, equity loans, and refinancing
  • Experience in Underwriting
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Experience in compliance analysis
  • Experience in leading, guiding and mentoring others
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective skills interacting with staff, management and members diplomatically and tactfully Bank Secrecy Section Remains cognizant of and adheres to Navy Federal policies and procedures and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Extensive skill in results-oriented leadership in a challenging environment
  • Effective skill exercising initiative and using good judgment to make sound decisions
  • Effective word processing and spreadsheet software skills
  • Advanced organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Effective skill maintaining accuracy with attention to detail and meeting deadlines

  • Working knowledge of Navy Federal products, services, programs, policies and procedures
  • SAR
  • DE
  • Working knowledge of Navy Federal's functions, philosophy, operations and organizational objectives
  • Knowledge of systems and software used at Navy Federal
  • Working knowledge of state and Federal laws; industry regulations, principles, and practices; and company policies that govern the business unit's products/services
