Overview

Lead the analysis of U.S. economic data and trends relevant to NFCU members and affiliated NFCU businesses, focusing on consumer metrics. This includes studying interest rates, inflation, labor and housing markets, retail and auto sales, and Federal Reserve policy. Deliver insightful analysis and forecasts that inform strategic business decisions, clarify relationships among economic variables and enhance the credit union's competitive position. Develop and present economic updates to senior executives, board members, and volunteers, and deliver presentations to various internal groups on key topics such as regional economic assessments, the housing crisis, and the auto market. Represent Navy Federal in the media by analyzing timely economic data and providing valuable insights to both the public and Navy Federal members.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive economic analysis to provide clarity and direction on various segments of the economy that directly or indirectly affect NFCU businesses.
  • Analyze macroeconomic trends influencing interest rates and that affect Navy Federal's businesses
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to determine the direction, and level, of interest rate risk taken across the balance sheet
  • Deliver economic analysis and insight to Navy Federal's primary profit centers to assist in evaluating the overall state of the consumer
  • Conduct and present economic analyses as guidance for the formulation of Navy Federal strategic objectives
  • Curate and integrate economic forecasts from external econometric firms as they relate to both the corporate and departmental level annual financial plan (AFP) process, the capital planning and stress testing process, and other long-range strategic initiatives
  • Create and maintain various econometric models and methods to develop forecasts
  • Compile, analyze and report data to explain economic phenomena and forecast market trends, applying mathematical models and statistical techniques
  • Provide direct assistance to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and SVP, Treasury and serves as primary liaison with senior management across the organization for collaborative economic analysis and projects
  • Lead or participate in cross-departmental project teams
  • Drive collaboration between CFO and other key business units to enhance the SVP, Treasury's ability to identify and manage risks to the financial statements
  • Lead cross departmental analytical efforts to isolate key issues affecting the organization's financial outlook, and independently collaborate with senior executives to resolve issues which affect the financial health of the organization
  • Conduct leadership presentations and/or training for various groups including executive leadership
  • Help manage occasional meetings delving into economic topics for a Navy Federal economic community of interest group.
  • Develop materials and provide Navy Federal Learning Center (NFLC) courses that develop employee understanding of the economy and its impact on our businesses and our member's finances and behavior
  • Serve as a media spokesperson on economic data and trends, including spot commentary when data is released, and on podcasts and radio interviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics or a related field, or the equivalent combination of training, education and experience
  • Extensive experience (10 plus years) in economic analysis and data collection
  • Expert analytical, quantitative, reconciliation and deductive reasoning skills
  • Significant experience managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment
  • Expert skill communicating with all levels within an organization
  • Expert skill presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives and information clearly and concisely
  • Significant experience working with cross-functional teams and leading projects
  • Expert skill in producing desired results and achieving goals and objectives

Desired Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of retail banking industry best practices
  • Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal's functions, philosophy, operations and organizational objectives
  • Master's degree in Economics or related field

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
