Overview
To plan and manage the reporting and analyses of business unit financial data to drive operations and strategic business decisions. Ensure appropriate and validated use of budget and financial information in cost accounting and financial analysis. Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to the General Counsel & Legal Operations, Enterprise Risk, and Internal Audit offices regarding financial performance. Support Chief Legal Officer, Chief Internal Audit Officer, and Chief Risk Officer in developing and executing strategic plans. Work is performed under general direction.
Responsibilities
- Manage the development of the department's Annual Financial Plan; review division submissions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with budget directives
- Prepare and present consolidated summaries of the business unit Annual Financial Plans to executive management
- Analyze and interpret Annual Financial Plan variance analysis and historical trend reports for all divisions within the business unit departments to monitor expenses and gain an understanding of account behavior to enhance the development of future Annual Financial Plans
- Plan and execute Quarterly Reforecast Process; identify variances and evaluate the financial impact of new business initiatives
- Lead the review of all division investment proposals with a focus on strategic, return on investment, and financial implications across the organization; prepare reports for monthly presentation to the President's Committee
- Collaborate with EPMO, Procurement, ISD and HR to provide financial management of the department's strategic initiatives
- Analyze complex financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to senior management for decision making purposes
- Provide consultative support for financial matters for all business unit departments
- Report key strategic financial metrics, including profitability metrics, sensitivity analysis and cost/benefit trade-off outlines to senior management to inform strategic business decisions
- Provide insight to senior management regarding impacts of external and internal environment changes on the profitability of different products/services/channels
- Prepare summaries, analyses, reports, charts, graphs, instructions, and manuals/reference materials for inclusion in ad hoc and required reports
- Produce, distribute, and review monthly department financial results to senior management
- Investigate and resolve questions and discrepancies by actively collaborating and communicating across business lines
- Review and recommend modifications to Activity Based Costing system to ensure accuracy of inputs into key financial metrics
- Coordinate with Finance and Accounting on general ledger and cost center updates, structures, corrections, transfers, and adjustments to ensure accurate record of expenditures for business units, correct accounting for origination activities and presence of risk controls
- Support accounting/procurement functions and related processes, including requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, and approval requirements
- Provide guidance on personnel metrics to include overtime usage, billet vacancy rates and monitoring of consultants/temporary workers subsidizing full time employees
- Serve as liaison with internal colleagues/contacts to resolve financial issues and/or business process changes
- Lead or participate in organization-wide project teams
- Collaborate with business unit and senior management to support organization strategies and tactics
- Manage business reporting and ensure analytics and reporting tools are in place to achieve optimal results
- Maintain thorough knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and Navy Federal policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with internal and external documentation and disclosure requirements
- Perform supervisory/managerial responsibilities

Qualifications
- Significant experience in leading and managing a financial analytics operation, preferably with a focus in accounting or planning for a large financial services organization
- Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations
- Advanced knowledge of banking/financial industry trends, products and services
- Significant experience in the application of statistical methods, mathematical techniques, forecasting, cost-benefit analysis and related analytical tools
- Advanced skill working with financial accounting systems used in the management and analysis of financial data
- Significant experience interpreting and applying accounting principles
- Significant experience applying techniques used in analyzing and reporting financial information
- Significant experience in delivering presentations to virtual and in person teams
- Advanced skill building effective relationships through rapport, trust, diplomacy and tact
- Significant experience managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment to achieve goals
- Significant experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and vendors
- Advanced skill to influence, negotiate & persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes
- Advanced skill exercising initiative and using good judgment to make sound decisions
- Advanced organizational, planning and time management skills
- Advanced analytical thinking skills to include summarizing information and clearly identifying key elements, patterns, results or relationships

- Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in supporting financial operations for General Counsel, Enterprise Risk, or Internal Audit offices within a large financial institution or corporation
- Knowledge of Navy Federal's organizational structure, policies, objectives, procedures, and products, and services
- Certified Public Accountant
