Apprentice Grounds

Overview

To provide support to Facility Management by performing maintenance on the exterior areas and structures.

Responsibilities

  • Performs exterior maintenance duties
  • Plants and transplants trees, shrubbery, and plantings
  • Cares for landscape by mowing lawns, trimming shrubbery, and pruning trees
  • Applies fertilizer under the guidance of the Master Grounds Crewman
  • Removes snow and ice from roadways, walkways, and sidewalks with shovels and engine-driven equipment
  • Drives Navy Federal vehicles to pick up and/or deliver materials and equipment (equipment, landscaping supplies and plants)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Commitment to follow all safety procedures and practices, including proper PPE use.
  • Ensure that tools, supplies, equipment, and materials used in grounds projects are returned in an effective, efficient manner.
  • Ability to use multiple computer-based applications such as Excel and Word, and ability to learn other facility management record keeping programs like FM systems.
  • Pick up and delivers supplies as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required or appropriate

Qualifications

  • Must possess valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to perform work in a variety of positions (sometimes uncomfortable positions) including standing, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to obtain pesticide applicators license
  • Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift, move and set up tools, equipment and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions

Desired Qualifications

  • Grounds maintenance experience

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Location: 5550 Heritage Oaks Drive, Pensacola, FL 32526 (on-site role, not hybrid)

Working conditions: This position is physical and requires a certain degree of agility to bend, reach, stoop, climb, and work in uncomfortable positions. Work requires lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials and equipment.
