This technical, hands-on, role will be serving as a Software Engineer defining, implementing and supporting DevOps tools and practices and processes across the Enterprise, working with Tech Consultants and Nationwide development lines.

Seeking engaged team members that perform the following duties: 

  • Work closely with Scrum master and APM, leading the CI/CD Product team from Technical standpoint, with thought leadership, direction setting, and delivery focus.
  • Have growth mind set, willing to jump in and take ownership of initiatives as they come, even if there is no prior experience.
  • Excellent planning and prioritizing skills, with the mind set to collaborate and pair with team members to teach and learn from each other.
  • Design, build, and/or deploy tools and reports that provide visibility into DevOps tools, practices across the Nationwide lines.

Required Skills: 

  • Experience with Scripting and Programming (bash/sh, Python, PowerShell, Java, etc.) 
  • Proven experience in the architecture, design, implementation, and testing of UI, services, and backend components and databases.
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) in both waterfall and Agile environments.
  • Proven Experience of CI / CD pipelines, automation tools, and/or cloud provisioning tools.
  • Confident in Linux\Windows OS administration including secure configuration, patching, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with cloud hosting solutions with a bias towards AWS, its native tools and other utilities designed specifically to operate on the AWS platform.
  • Previous experience executing security strategies with IAM, Vulnerability Management, Data protection, Logging and Monitoring, Network Security tools, or Encryption.
  • Knowledge of Containers and Security.
  • Experience responding to audits and remediating audit items  
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated collaboration experience 
  • Demonstrated ability to define, build and mature processes and metrics 
  • Listening, consulting, and documentation skills.

DevOps Tools:

Proven user and admin experience with GitHub, Jenkins, Concourse, Artifactory, Xray, Harness and UrbanCode Deploy.

This role is currently working in a hybrid capacity. It collaborates in office with the team 3 days every other week. Subject to change.

As a Software Engineer, you will focus on mentoring and leading others to deliver high quality, cost-effective technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentors and trains other team members on design techniques, tools and coding standards. 

  • Provides strategic advice on using technology to achieve goals. 

  • Drives cross-collaboration and execution of projects across multiple teams. 

  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards and optimal practices. 

  • Champions the use of DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques. 

  • Ensures continuous learning and improvement through ongoing training, practice and innovation. 

  • Manages individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables. 

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, mathematics or related field is strongly preferred. 

Experience: Six years of experience in programming and systems analysis. Three years of experience in project management is preferred. 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Hands-on technical leadership experience leading project teams and setting technical direction. Proficiency in one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle sophisticated business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus. 

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Associates may have on-call responsibility after normal working hours and/or on weekends.
