Our National Retail Program Underwriting Team
The National Retail Program team builds programs rooted in franchises, associations or agency expertise done in collaboration with agent experts and with the support of the franchise or association. This is a great launching point at Nationwide because of the diversity of experience you gain in this role. Every day creates new opportunities, and no two days are the same.
We’re looking for a Program Underwriter Intern, location variable.
About You
A successful Program Underwriting Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
- Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Risk Management, Accounting, Data Analytics, Finance, Marketing, MIS, Business Management or a related field of study.
- Completion of sophomore or junior year is preferred
- Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience
- 3.0 GPA or higher is desired
Skills/Competencies
- Exposure to insurance and risk management concepts
- Problem solving and analytical skills, including ability to recognize problems, determine appropriate actions, implement solutions and use judgement when appropriate
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment
- Natural curiosity to explore and question
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; SQL or Tableau is preferred
Job Summary
A day in the life of a Program Underwriting Intern might include:
- Manages assigned underwriting territory to identify business trends, ensure profitability and build agency relationships.
- Responsible for program underwriting and business development support to ensure profitable business.
- Work within specific limits and authority on assignments.
- Assist with migration of policies to a new commercial lines platform
- Program vetting support.
- Data reporting assistance
- Demonstrating willingness to be engaged and try new things
- Participating in department and company meetings
- Completing training and developing proficiency on the tools to complete analysis
- Completing a project with other interns at Nationwide for presentation to senior leadership at the end of the summer
- Performing other duties as assigned
