Institutional Securities Technology (IST) develops and oversees the overall technology strategy and bespoke technology solutions to drive and enable the institutional businesses and enterprise-wide functions. Our clients include Fixed Income, Equities, Commodities, Investment Banking, Research and Global Capital Markets.

Morgan Stanley's market leading institutional equity derivatives business is powered by a world class technology platform from front to back. Our platform manages the processing of Structured Products and OTC's for the exotic derivatives business. This is a complex business area requiring smart, innovative, and self-sufficient developers to work closely with sales, trading and quants.

As the business continues to grow, we are working to onboard new products for our clients, providing a seamless integration with our connectivity, pricing, workflow, and document generation systems. We are looking to build out cloud ready components, with zero downtime and single click deployment capability. This is an opportunity to get involved in shaping the product and pricing strategy as well as making an impact on business revenue targets by better servicing clients with the products they want to trade.

Reflecting the global nature of our business and systems, the team is distributed between New York, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Mumbai, Bangalore and Budapest. We have a strong development team in New York where many of our business sponsors are also located. We are active in many out of work activities both socially and volunteering our time through various firm sponsored initiatives
  • You will be a proficient Java developer, who will be hands on, in a delivery focused role.
  • You will have strong product knowledge of equity derivatives and ideally structured products and OTC's.
  • You will have strong communications skills to build a strong relationship with business stakeholders including sales, trading and quants.
  • You will be a proactive member of an agile development team, focusing on efficient application delivery to meet business KPI's.
  • You will encourage innovation and set technical guardrails for the development team.
  • You will help develop and lead the technology strategy within the department, as well as ensuring it aligns with the global technology strategy.
  • Opportunity to work with front end application development in HTML 5, Angular and scripting in python.
  • You will help implement and ensure the team follows SDLC best practices.
  • At least 6 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.

Required Skills:
  • Experience in sales and trading platforms in Equities / FX / Fixed Income / Derivatives domain
  • Experience with application integration, software design patterns, frameworks, unit testing, automated testing, performance / memory analysis, and n-tier service-oriented architecture.
  • Experience of Agile development techniques and a deep understanding of systems engineering, build and release management principles including continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Practical Experience building Java Applications. Specifically Spring Boot Applications.
  • Test-Driven Development (TDD) experience.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $205,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
