You will:
  • Represent the Quantitative Research and Model Review (QRMR) team as the IM model control function across MSIM and at firm level on model risk management discussions and system and infrastructure initiatives
  • Support and shape model governance initiatives and strategy setting for model risk management
  • Engage in model development discussions, documentation, testing and validation
  • Perform model review including analysis of adequacy of testing and propose model testing strategies as required for Investment Management (IM) models, such as portfolio construction, research, risk, valuation, AI and advanced statistical models
  • Assess and document the performance of IM models
  • Analyze and document IM models
  • Assess quality of implementation of IM models and their compliance with policies and procedures
  • Support Deterministic Quantitative Methods (DQMs) governance initiatives, including implementation of appropriate controls and attestation of compliance to the DQM`s governance framework
  • Work closely with Morgan Stanley Model Risk Management to ensure appropriate application of model risk assessment for IM models and timely closure of key deliverables on model risk management
  • Work closely with portfolio managers (model owners) and quants (model developers) to ensure models are developed and maintained in accordance with policies and standards
  • Ensure model documentation is in line with regulatory model risk management guidance covering OCC 2011-12, SR 11-7 and other related standards and regulations
  • Serve as advisory function for portfolio managers (model owners) across the business regarding model documentation and provide recommendations on appropriate enhancements to help close model limitations
  • Work with the team to develop the proper framework for model risk assessment, model change control and ongoing model performance/health monitoring
  • Work closely with the team on projects and other strategic initiatives related to model governance enhancements

You have:
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in model development/review/risk management in the financial services industry
  • At least a bachelor's degree in highly quantitative field, such as Applied Math, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematical Finance, Finance and Economics
  • Fluid understanding of financial markets, economics, product valuation and portfolio management concepts
  • Understanding of model strengths and weaknesses, blind spots and risks related to the implementation and usage
  • Familiarity with essential quantitative techniques used in financial models
  • Experience in model development or validation
  • Strong communication (in English) skills are a must
  • Experience with presentation to senior stakeholders, committee and forums is highly desired (in English)
  • Programming skills in common computer languages such as R, Python or MATLAB
  • Fluid understanding of software development lifecycle in a tightly controlled corporate environment
  • Familiarity with vendor risk systems such as RiskMetrics, BlackRock Aladdin, MSCI Barra, Yield Book, SunGard APT, Bloomberg terminal is a plus
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field or CFA, FRM, CEFA certification is a plus
