Team Profile

The Team's remit it is to design, develop and, through active post-launch product management, maintain products for MSIM's business outside of the US. As a leading global asset manager, products cover all asset classes, UCITs and AIF structures, distribution across 25+ countries and over $150bn. The Team in International is broadly divided into a Product Development function, whose responsibility it is to define, develop and deliver products needed to support MSIM's strategy and a Product Management function, responsible for ensuring that the legal vehicle structures through which MSIM's strategies are being delivered continue to remain viable and competitive vis-a-vis competitors and the defined target market and comply with all regulatory requirements. There is also a Global Alternatives Product team based in NY.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsible for the development of Japanese and International fund legal vehicles and their sub-funds, including:

  • Lead new product development, fund launches or product modifications on Japanese onshore funds or offshore funds launch. Liaise with MSIM stakeholders in both Japanese and English to gather necessary product information and seek internal product approvals.
  • Collaborate jointly with domestic Investment Management Firms in Japanese to design their funds which will feed into MSIM funds by adopting the best ideas of vehicle structure and terms.
  • Liaise with internal Product Team and other stakeholders to support investments from Japanese IMA accounts into MSIM funds and propose necessary changes to existing funds / accounts.
  • Knowledge of fund operational matters and share classes are preferred. Candidates should understand investor needs.
  • Liaise with MSIM stakeholders on changes or additions to products sought by Japan Sales teams related to Japanese strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with International Product team effectively to act as the go-to resource for product related queries from Japan based teams. Syndicate upcoming fund changes that impact Japanese products and business initiatives.
  • Responsible for specification of Japanese onshore funds described on fund documents and internal project documents.
  • Work with Distribution team for necessary communication about modification/termination of Japanese onshore funds to institutional investors and distributors.
  • Oversee and maintain fund implementation by preparing and maintaining fund offering document and organize regulatory fund filing.
  • Produce, respond and/or contribute to Japan regulatory requests, surveys, and periodic reports on our products.
  • Manage relationships with product stakeholders across divisions.

Skills required

  • The candidate must have a broad command of both Japanese (native) and English (fluent) language to exhibit an understanding of the asset management industry and its operating functions.
  • The candidate should have a strong understanding of the product development of both Japanese domiciled Public and Private fund. A knowledge of Cayman funds and European (UCITS) funds including Alternative structures would be an added advantage.
  • Experience working in a Product Development role, managing development of complex fund solutions, and coordinating with multiple internal and external stakeholders would be an added advantage.
  • A strong understanding of capital markets, portfolio management processes and techniques to collaborate effectively with Portfolio Specialist and Investment teams would be an added advantage.
  • A strong balance of quantitative, qualitative, and commercial skills
