The 2-year Virtual Engagement Associate (VEA) Program is the launching pad for a career at Morgan Stanley. Throughout the program, VEAs provide support to Financial Advisors (FAs) and Teams who aspire to modernize their practice and strengthen client relationships in a manner that leads to business growth.

Planning VEAs provide dedicated support to FAs by enhancing their financial planning process to produce authentic financial plans by leveraging Morgan Stanley's proprietary Goals-Based Planning System.

Position Overview

This program is an in-person role that provides an exciting opportunity for recent graduates to:
  • Obtain the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam (prior to joining the Firm), in addition to firm sponsorship of the Series 7 and Series 63 exams within the first 90 days of employment
  • Gain firsthand experience consulting and working directly with FAs and their teams, learning about their business model, practice management, and working with their clients
  • Navigate and master Morgan Stanley's state-of-the-art digital Modern Wealth Management Tools

The Experience You'll Gain

The Morgan Stanley VEA program is a two-phase program, consisting of a rigorous licensing phase, followed by training and assessments, which are designed to ensure that you are fully prepared to take your place on the desk.

Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:
  • Adapt communication styles to adhere to a diverse array of people and situations and drive opportunities
  • Develop and share new ideas to attract and retain clients and contribute to the future growth of the business
  • Demonstrate empathy and help advisors with their financial planning process, creating an exceptional client experience in a fast-paced environment
  • In depth understanding of investments and financial markets, through trainings and on the job learning
  • Strive for excellence in your role and work with your manager to prepare for future career advancements that align with your goals as a professional

A Typical Workday as a Planning VEA:
  • Create and maintain a repeatable, scalable, high quality planning process for FAs
  • Drive adoption of Goals Based Wealth Management strategy with FAs
  • Become highly proficient in the Firm's financial planning tools while working with FAs to enhance client relationships and grow their business
  • Engage clients directly to gather information to build, analyze, and present goals-based plans in a thoughtful and effective manner upholding Modern Wealth Standard of Care
  • Identify opportunities by proactively analyzing client relationships. Identify and recommend opportunities to FAs that will enrich the client experience
  • Regularly participate in meetings with management to share best practices, planning wins and areas of improvement
  • Establish, maintain, and support strong working relationships with FAs; demonstrate accountability and a strong work ethic to promote confidence and trust in their work
  • Seek constructive feedback and be open to coaching from both your Team Manager and FAs

Skills You Bring

We seek candidates from a variety of academic backgrounds who have a heightened interest in financial planning. Successful VEAs have a unique blend of interpersonal and analytic skills that will be leveraged to build relationships.

Specific Qualifications Include:
  • Must hold a bachelor's degree, professional experience in finance, business development, management, marketing, sales, legal, accounting, education, military, or other business-related field preferred, but open to all majors
  • Must have the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam prior to interviewing for this position in addition to Firm sponsorship of the Series 7 and Series 63 exams within the first 90 days of employment
  • Exemplary communication, presentation, problem solving, and time-management skills
  • Organized, focused, and highly disciplined
  • Ability to prioritize assignments based on the needs of assigned FAs
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without durational restrictions
  • Successful completion of background check and pre-employment assessments
