Full Stack Team Lead - Vice President - Software Engineering
Profile Description
We're seeking someone to join our team as Vice President. We are looking for a hands-on software development manager to lead a team of 15-20 engineers focused on building the firm's Operational Mapping Data platform and provide local technical and managerial support to the Business Continuity Management team of 5 engineers.
Prior experience in a risk management or resilience technology organization within a major global financial services firm is desirable but not essential. However, at least 9 years of hands-on software engineering is critical, with at least the last 2 years of those in a management role overseeing a team of at least 10 engineers.

For the right candidate this role will also provide the opportunity to be mentored by a Distinguished Engineer (DE) and make connections with and get involved in some of the firm wide challenges the DEs are tackling such as LLM based code optimization and 'architecture-as-code' capabilities.

What you'll do in the role:
This is a hands-on technical Environment Manager (VP lead) position that develops and maintains software solutions that support business needs.
- Lead the development of new ideas and/or policies in own area.
- Analyze multiple sets of information to create summaries for various stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor and support a team of software engineers, fostering a high-performing team environment that encourages innovation and collaboration.
- Proactively develop the professional growth of the employees in the team.
- Be the in-region day to day point of contact and escalation point for stakeholders, users, support teams, super department colleagues and technology partners.
- Lead on technical and data architecture of the platform to ensure a resilient, scalable and future-proofed ecosystem of applications.
- Maintain high quality technical architecture and design documentation (e.g. C4 framework)
- Provide hands-on engineering leadership and guidance to the team across the full software development/devops lifecycle.
- Passionately follow the latest technology trends and advancements within and outside of Morgan Stanley and ensure best in class technology choices are being made.
- Partner closely with the Reliability & Production Engineering (RPE) function to ensure high levels of availability, performance and data quality in the production environment.
- Work closely with management and business stakeholders to help create, manage and execute a multi-year technology & data roadmap for the Operational Mapping Data platform.
- Be comfortable socializing the strategic roadmap with the immediate team, business stakeholders and technology partners.
- Translate strategic goals into actionable technical deliverables for the team, ensuring the squads are optimally structured to execute on the strategic goals and remaining nimble to respond to run-the-bank demands such as unplanned regulatory requests, business enhancements and production support.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement in agile, engineering and devops processes.
- Assert a relentless focus on creating capacity within the engineering team (e.g. by maximizing leverage of genAI development tools) and in our business stakeholders (e.g. by increasing automated testing coverage) and our users (e.g. by building best in class UX that reduces user burden)
What you'll bring to the role:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related field.
- Advanced level in web technologies (eg. React, Typescript, node js, css, JavaScript, Bootstrap), Java & Java Microservices and REST API integration.
- No lower than intermediate level in Postgres or other RDMS.
- Strong application and data architecture skills, ideally using the C4 framework and data driven design techniques.
- Experience with MVC / MVVM-style application design and implementation.
- Proven ability to design and implement resilient, scalable, future-proofed solutions to business problems.
- Very strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and confidently with business stakeholders, users and technology partners to senior level.
- Proven people management skills within a complex global technology function.
- An excellent understanding and hands on experience of Agile/Scrum with a passion for taking the team up the agile maturity curve.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify the root cause of issues, articulate possible resolutions and lead the team through successful implementation and lessons learnt.
Skills Desired
- Python, Talend, Camunda or similar workflow product, semantic architecture and related frameworks such as RDF & OWL, sparql, Shell Scripting, GenAI and LLMs
