Position Description

The Office of the Historian must be an integral and vibrant part of how we celebrate the Firm - our successes, innovations and culture. It has the power to be a global source of inspiration around our heritage, which will create true awareness and connection with employees, clients and recruits.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in managing a corporate historical archive collection, with an instinct for storytelling and a deep understanding of how audiences interact with historical content across all of our platforms. By thinking creatively how the historical collection can be leveraged for Senior leadership tributes, interactive oral histories, deal enrichment, tours and exhibits.

This individual will manage the day-to-day operations of the Morgan Stanley Historical Archive by establishing policies for acquiring and appraising content, creating clear processes for collection development, expand use of the archival collection through engaging with employees on corporate history, heritage and culture, utilizing a digital archival program for born digital and present-day content, managing archive vendors relationships, and developing a strategy for Firm's marquee anniversaries. They will work closely with the internal communications leads and press officers in each region to ensure that historical content is being captured globally and represents our global, Integrated Firm.

Required Skills:

- 10+ years of managing a Corporate or Museum archive experience.
- A keen eye for adapting content and formats for different communication channels.
- Demonstrated track record of creating content activations.
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to manage a team.
- M.A. or M.L.I.S. in Archives, Library Science, Museum Studies, or related field with formal training in archives management and preservation or commensurate experience.
- Experience and training in records management.
- Experience with professional archives management software.
- Knowledge of archives preservation requirements, storage needs and registration procedures for archives.
- Up-to-date knowledge of professional standards and trends.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, orally and in writing, with staff, vendors and clients.
-Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $120,000 and $200,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
