The Fixed Income Division is comprised of Interest Rate and Currency Products, Credit Products and Distribution. Professionals in the Division assess and actively manage risk, trade securities, and structure as well as execute innovative transactions in the fast-paced and constantly changing global markets. Morgan Stanley aligns its municipal investment banking, underwriting, sales, trading, lending, and M&A advisory in one integrated organizational group under the umbrella of the Municipal Securities Division.
Background on the Team
Within Municipal Securities, the Syndicate / Debt Capital Markets team is made up of a group of experienced municipal market professionals focused on providing exceptional marketing and execution services to the full complement of our clients.
Within this multi-faceted group, the Analyst/Associate will concentrate on the marketing of municipal new issue to both clients and internal stakeholders to broaden distribution and enhance connectivity with the universe of municipal investors. The role will also focus on designing and implementing innovative data-driven approaches needed to support new issue structures/pricing levels and track investor feedback ahead of transaction executions.
Qualified senior Analyst / Associate candidates will benefit from unique exposure to the municipal market through underwriting and structuring activities. These include the marketing and execution of municipal new issue deals. Qualified candidates will work with Public Finance investment bankers, internal risk functions, municipal issuers, investors, sales, trading, and other capital markets professionals.
Primary Responsibilities
• Provide the analytical, quantitative and operational support necessary to execute bespoke financing structures
• Develop and maintain marketing materials for existing and new product offerings that appropriately reflect current marketing conditions
• Work closely with Public Finance bankers and the salesforce force to identify both client needs and design structures to meet those needs
• Develop and participate in presentations to municipal and not-for-profit borrowers, as well as domestic and international institutional investors
• Work and collaborate with other syndicate desks at Morgan Stanley and externally
• Undergraduate degree
• Developed understanding of the municipal market
• Experience in municipal public finance, debt capital markets or another applicable structured finance/fixed income role
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with programming languages such as Python or VBA are a plus
• Excellent communication and presentation skills - written and verbal
• Curious, inquisitive, collaborative, attention to detail, analytical, self-starting, team-oriented
• Eager to use new technologies to enhance traditional municipal syndicate job functions
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and simultaneously manage multiple high priority projects
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $125,000 per year for Analyst, and between $150,000 and $200,00 per year for Associate, at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
