Derivatives Clearing Operations Associate

We're seeking someone to join our team as an Associate within the Derivatives Clearing Service Group. The group's primary responsibility is to ensure that the client's futures settlement figures are accurate each day. This entails the resolution of all trade breaks, the monitoring of all cash activity in the account and ensuring that the account is fully margined.

In the Operations division, we partner with business units across the Firm to support financial transactions, devise and implement effective controls and develop client relationships. This is an Associate level position level position within Client Service & Relationship Management, which is responsible for managing internal and external client relationships. We do this by engaging in client service activities, optimizing the client experience, and managing vendor/external business partner relationships.

What you'll do in the role:
  • Knowledgeable on the rules of the road relating to Margin and Client Money
  • Strong product skills within Clearing Ops but product literate across other businesses
  • Can contribute independently to automation or enhancement initiatives
  • Be a change agent and drive the direction of the group strategically by improving the efficiency and control aspects of Clearing, Client service, Reconciliation and Control functions
  • Proactively explore solutions to close control gaps and ensure adherence to existing control framework; regular review and understanding of procedures, checklists and reports to ensure they are accurate and current
  • Is seen as collaborative across many infrastructure groups to drive solutions for their Clients
  • Is trusted to participate in Client pitches with the Sales team
  • Visits Clients face to face with some frequency, with or without the Business Unit

What you'll bring to the role:
  • Ability to establish clear goals and priorities, and address non-standard issues within area of expertise with minimal guidance and supervision
  • Subject matter expertise in business area supported, client requirements, and ability to ensure control is not compromised to comply with client requests
  • Culture carrier across Operations, embracing the Firm's core values
  • At least 2 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role
  • Understanding of Derivatives Clearing and the industry
  • Excellent communication skills with subordinates, peers and senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work across Global departments to build credibility and strong relationships
  • Proven track record of achieving results optimizing resources and driving efficiencies.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $60,000 and $90,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
