We're seeking someone to join our team as a Director in IM Operations to oversee transactions for multiple investment types, including alternative investments, public investments, and derivatives, held across Morgan Stanley Investment Management businesses supported by Alternative Investment Services AIS.

In the Operations division, we partner with business units across the Firm to support financial transactions, devise and implement effective controls and develop client relationships. This is a Team Specialist position at Director level within Product Support & Services, which is responsible for providing transaction support and managing post execution processes.

What you'll do in the role:
• Serve as a subject matter expert within functional area, working with Team Manager to manage processes, risks and/or projects, proposing and implementing improvements/changes
• Act as key problem solver for area or expertise, applying detailed knowledge to address unique or novel situations, recognize risks and draw out key issues
• Coordinate work, train and develop other team members where required, including task allocation, and project contribution
• Actively monitor critical investment subscription and redemption activity for multiple portfolios and custodian banks; ensure satisfactory settlement of those transactions, including cash distributions and receipts; track investment subscription and redemption documentation to ensure safe and timely receipt by underlying administrators, transfer agents or managers, and confirm subscription and redemption documentation terms to trade tickets or contract notes
• Ensure proper compliance procedures are followed in connection with the portfolio purchase and sales activity and coordinate appropriate wire instruction settlements of these transactions with the custodian bank, including providing cash instruction to certain banking institutions for the payment of investment purchases, capital calls, and portfolio-level expenses. Perform call back verifications to validate third party wire instructions
• Develop significant level of expertise of the holdings, terms, and transactions of multiple investment types, including hedge funds, private equity funds, co-investments, secondaries, equity and fixed income securities, mutual funds, ETFs, swaps, forwards and other derivative instruments. Develop an understanding of complex portfolio structures, including leveraged corporate blockers, AIVs, SPVs and other customized portfolios, in order to provide intuitive and proactive oversight of these portfolios and underlying investments
• Monitor cash levels for portfolios with credit facilities and coordinate with investment and accounting teams on drawdown/paydown requests and debt covenant reporting

What you'll bring to the role:
• Ability to lead by example, work with drive and determination, and put forward challenging views to senior levels
• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of functional area and operational/compliance policies and procedures of their team
• Ability to operate independently across the majority of day-to-day responsibilities
• Culture carrier across Operations, embracing the Firm's core values and acting as a role model
• Prior experience in alternative investment operations is preferred but not required; experience with Investran is a plus
• Strong organizational skills and an orientation toward strict attention to detail
• Proven record of collaborating with colleagues across geographic and functional boundaries
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of alternative investments (hedge funds, private equity funds, derivatives accounting) and/or public securities is a plus
• At least 4 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role

Role is hybrid and will require in office attendance 3 days/week.
