The Sustainable Finance Summer Fellowship provides a unique opportunity to work with Morgan Stanley teams that seek to drive capital towards investments that promote sustainable economic growth and scalable solutions to global challenges. With support from across the Global Sustainability Office (GSO) and the Institute for Sustainable Investing, Morgan Stanley is dedicated to accelerating the adoption of sustainable investing, which seeks to deliver both competitive financial returns and positive environmental and social impact. GSO and the Institute partner across the Firm to pioneer scalable sustainable finance solutions, build new sustainable investing tools and generate industry-leading insights that inform and empower investors.

Commencing in early July, the 10-week Sustainable Finance Summer Fellowship places graduate students on sustainability or impact focused teams at Morgan Stanley. Each Fellow will be assigned to a team based on their interests, skill set and firm needs. This program requires in person attendance and is in our New York City offices.

Fellowship Program

The Fellowship program is designed to cultivate emerging leaders in sustainable finance. Fellows will take part in firmwide and divisional programming and have the opportunity to network with Senior Management and other representatives across the firm through lunches, seminars and social activities.

Role and Responsibilities

Fellowship projects will vary depending on which team a Fellow is placed with, but responsibilities may include:
  • Conducting strategic business analysis and detailed industry research.
  • Building complex financial models.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Monitoring and providing updates on market news.
  • Researching and analyzing emerging industry trends.
  • Gathering and analyzing sustainability data.
  • Contributing to and/or leading projects that support firmwide sustainable investing initiatives.

Qualifications / Skills / Requirements
  • Currently working toward a master's degree or are enrolled in a graduate level program.
  • Possess a clear and demonstrable interest in sustainability and sustainable finance.
  • Be able to summarize and articulate complex ideas effectively.
  • Be a team player and a self-starter who enjoys working on projects independently and in groups.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.

Expected base pay rate for the role will be $135,000 USD per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include discretionary bonuses and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
