2025 Legal & Compliance Summer Analyst Program (Hong Kong)

The Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program beginning in June. The Summer Analyst will be placed into the Legal & Compliance Division. The mission of the Division is to assist Morgan Stanley in achieving its business objectives in a manner consistent with the Firm's core values and Global Risk Management Principles, by facilitating and overseeing the Firm's management of legal, regulatory and franchise risk.

Legal Department advises the Firm on legal, regulatory and franchise risk, including litigation and regulatory enforcement matters, corporate governance, and Firm transactions. Non-Financial Risk Department manages risks which are not financial in nature, and could have a potential economic, reputational, regulatory, financial reporting, or client impact from (i) failed or inadequate processes, data, or controls; ii) infrastructure or environmental factors; or iii) intentional or inadvertent actions of employees or external parties. Non-Financial Risk Department includes Global Compliance, Global Financial Crimes, and Operational Risk and provides a single, comprehensive, and consistent second-line view of these non-financial risks.

Training Program

This intensive 10-week program includes a Firmwide orientation to Morgan Stanley's businesses and division specific training. Your training will continue throughout the summer with structured learning sessions run by senior managers. Similarly, you will have many opportunities to integrate with peers and senior colleagues through a series of networking, social, charity and mentoring events.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Assisting in day-to-day risk management of operational risk exposures by providing analysis of business activities and establishing processes and tools to monitor these risks under the supervision of experienced professionals
  • Contributing to due diligence reviews (for example, financial crimes concerns) of clients during the account opening process
  • Contributing to monitoring and surveillance of transactions, employee activities and communications
  • Participating in transaction and control-based testing of Firm processes and controls to mitigate risks
  • Providing support in analyzing regulations, rules and various proposals as well as drafting and coordinating regulatory updates and compliance bulletins
  • Conducting research and assisting with responses to various regulatory inquiries and examinations
  • Assisting the relevant team to review and draft policies, procedures, compliance manuals and develop/update related training courses
  • Participating in compliance risk assessments and analyzing the compliance environment and controls for a line of business
  • Working under the direction and supervision of attorneys on assignments incorporating various aspects of a legal practice
  • Assisting attorneys and collaborating with other teams in the Legal & Compliance Division to support the Firm and its businesses

Qualifications and Skills
  • You are pursuing an undergraduate Bachelor's or Master's degree with a graduation date between October 2025 and July 2026. Students from any degree / discipline are welcome to apply
  • You have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Track record of academic excellence
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize a variety of data to produce well-designed, meaningful summaries and reports
  • Adept at solving problems and developing efficient processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Fluency in English required, and Asian language skills preferred
