The Role

We are looking for an Analytics Engineer to advance our data and analytics function, enabling greater data-driven decision-making across the organization. In this role you will be responsible for building and scaling both data products (data assets, dashboards, tools/services) and analytic frameworks (decision frameworks, metrics, analytical models). You will be a “force multiplier” who significantly improves and speeds up Modern Animal’s ability to make great data-informed decisions.

This is a high-impact role requiring strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to scope and execute projects with autonomy. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, operations, marketing, and finance, to ensure our data ecosystem is optimized for efficiency and insight generation.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and Manage Cross-Functional Data Products - analytical data models, metric frameworks and implementations, and self-serve dashboards/tools
  • Drive Decision Making – Collaborate with teams across the company, including senior leadership, to deeply understand business needs and translate them into actionable data solutions and insights.
  • Automate and Streamline Analytics Processes – Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and scalability in reporting and data workflows.
  • Ensure Data Quality & Governance – Implement best practices for data reliability, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Educate and Enable – Provide training and documentation to ensure stakeholders can effectively self-serve and interpret data.

Who You Are

  • 2+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data analytics, or data engineering.
  • Self-starter and natural finish - you are someone who gets sh*t done.
  • Possess an innate intellectual curiosity and desire to understand the complexities of our business and data, and elevate the prowess of the data and analytics team.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand and anticipate stakeholder needs from the perspective of the business.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - including experience presenting insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • You are a person of high-integrity - you do the right thing, not the easy thing.
  • You thrive in cross-functional projects that have a heavy combination of technical requirements and user-focused workflows.
  • High proficiency with SQL and experience with one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Javascript) and markup/configuration languages (e.g. YAML).
  • Proficiency in building data models and pipelines using transformation and orchestration software (e.g. dbt, Airflow).
  • Experience building reports/dashboards with business intelligence (BI) tools, such as Tableau, Looker, Metabase, etc.).
  • Nice to have: experience with product analytics tools, such as Posthog, Heap, or Amplitude.

The pay range for this position is $111,000 - $139,000 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and equity grant units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per the California Pay Transparency Act. Base pay information is based on geographic location.
