Corporate Development & Strategy works with the Executive Office and stakeholders in the business and corporate functions to design and drive key strategic priorities for Mizuho's Corporate and Investment Bank in the Americas region. The team's scope of work spans many facets of the firm's development and transformation, including firm-wide strategic planning, business-division specific growth areas (e.g., new product development, inorganic growth opportunities), process & operational improvements, and principal investment activities. The team provides support to the Executive Office and partners with the Technology division on digital innovation initiatives. Our projects provide exposure to business initiatives across multiple lines of business and products, as well as exposure to learning the operational aspects of a large foreign banking institution. This individual will be a meaningful contributor to high-priority, high-visibility projects of the firm, which at times require high time demands of the team. The individual will enjoy a project-oriented, team-oriented working environment that involves balancing multiple deadlines and stakeholders in an organized manner. The team prioritizes a culture of intellectual curiosity, self-study, and professional development.

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and synthesize complex business and operational problems. Proactively propose potential solutions with sound and demonstrable rationale.
  • Perform financial analysis on prospective business opportunities and/or cost optimization initiatives and develop independent insights and takeaways.
  • Prepare presentation materials in a concise and structured manner to summarize the purpose, observations, and solutions for a broad range of topics, projects, and initiatives.
  • Continuously analyze market data / external news sources to identify competitive insights and market intelligence to share with the team or other stakeholders.
  • Periodically contribute to reporting and presentation deliverables for the Head of Strategy, and the Executive Office.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • 3+ years prior investment banking, management consulting, or in-house strategy experience, with a strong preference for prior roles in financial services.
  • Understanding of the financial services industry, preferably with existing knowledge of the CIB landscape, its clients, and its products.
  • Seeks a role with significant individual responsibility and an expectation of proactively creating value for the team and the firm
  • Ability to review and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information and form independent judgments without extensive direction.
  • Capable of tackling complex problems that are often ambiguous and may not have a clear framework or template to follow.
  • Comfortable interacting with senior leadership and colleagues at all levels with confidence and discretion.
  • Unwavering attention to detail. Demonstrates strong written and presentation skills.

The expected base salary ranges from $165,000.00 - $185,000.00 Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
