The Compliance function manages compliance and regulatory risk by establishing compliance policies, providing training, conducting compliance reviews, monitoring anti-money laundering (AML) and coordinating regulatory examinations and relations.

Summary The AML AVP will be responsible for overseeing a team of AML analysts, being the primary contact for case-related questions and inquiries, providing guidance, and conducting training sessions. Additionally, the AVP is responsible for identifying and monitoring suspicious activities and transactions at Mizuho, ensuring timely reporting to the AML Compliance Manager. This role also involves reviewing AML cases, conducting research, documenting investigations, and providing recommendations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform in depth AML case monitoring which includes investigating customer transactions under applicable anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing laws and present cases to senior management accordingly.
  • Provide case guidance to analysts, ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform QC reviews of AML cases and SARs to determine the effectiveness of the AML controls and to evaluate the word product for quality, accuracy and sound decision-making.
  • Research specific money laundering concerns and typologies and assist with implementation of processes related to any new regulations or model changes that may be necessary.
  • Participate in departmental projects and initiatives; participate in below-the-line (BTL) and/or above-the-line (ATL) testing to ensure/improve model effectiveness.
  • Keep abreast of new rules, regulations, and reputational risks to enhance the investigation processes.
  • Organize and lead trainings to enhance the team's knowledge of emerging AML risk, regulatory updates, and system enhancements.
  • Maintain a current understanding of money laundering and terrorist financing issues, including policies, procedures, regulations, industry best practice, criminal typologies and developing trends.
  • Participate in any ad-hoc projects, as necessary.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree; prior experience as an AML investigator in a transaction monitoring and SAR writing capacity or equivalent experience or education.
  • Proven ability to lead a team of analysts, provide guidance, and support professional development.
  • At least 5+ years' experience in reviewing customer transactions for potentially suspicious activity and performing AML related investigations using an AML automated monitoring software.
  • Ability to analyze case data, identify risks, and develop effective solutions.
  • Knowledge of the laws applicable to money laundering, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), The USA PATRIOT Act, FinCEN requirements, and SAR requirements.
  • Operational knowledge of US Dollar payment systems, including SWIFT, CHIPS, ACH, and Fed Funds.
  • Experience in reviewing Know Your Customer (KYC) information for complex banking products (such as correspondent banking), performing analysis of customer information/transactions, conducting customer reviews
  • Extensive knowledge about applicable CIP, AML and anti-terrorist financing laws, regulations, procedures, and industry practices including specifically understanding the requirements related to NYDFS Part 504
  • Excellent writing, communication, analytical, judgment and research skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
  • Excellent research skills, including experience with online research tools
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Access, and MS-PowerPoint)
  • Certification in a professional association such as the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) would be helpful.

The expected base salary ranges from $99,000.00 -$115,000.00. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
