The Director of Consulting Services, Construction is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of the Construction Consulting Services team. This role involves a combination of business development, financial management, and team development. The Director is responsible for driving revenue growth, optimizing resource utilization, and developing a high-performing team. The role requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders, including the Strategy Team, Sales, and Senior Leadership, as well as frequent engagement with clients.

  • Collaborate with Sales: Communicate regularly with Sales leads to identify gaps in the consulting offerings and team availability. Help recommend offerings to new and existing clients that we have established relationships with.
  • Strategic Discussions: Engage in high-level discussions about business strategies, services offered, and client requirements. This includes understanding upcoming opportunities and aligning the consulting team’s efforts with overall business objectives.
  • Forecasting Business Growth: Understand and forecast the business for the upcoming two quarters, providing insights into expected demand and resource requirements.
  • Client Relationship Management: Maintain frequent touchpoints with client decision-makers, particularly those responsible for 80% of business area revenue, to ensure strong ongoing relationships and identify potential opportunities.
  • Consulting Offerings Management: Create and update consulting offerings and associated SKUs, ensuring that services remain competitive and aligned with market demand.
  • Partner Alignment: Create and grow partnerships with our industry partners including Autodesk and our third party vendors to help the construction business scale.
  • Strategy: Develop and update the long-term business strategy meeting corporate goals and initiatives
Financial Management
  • Utilization and Budget Accountability: Accountable for team utilization, revenue projections, and gross profit to meet the budget targets. Ensure resources are deployed efficiently, with minimal waste.
  • Resource and Staffing Planning: Work closely with teams to understand individual capabilities and plan for staffing needs on upcoming opportunities. Select the most optimal resource for each project, balancing both client needs and team capabilities.
  • Long-Term Business Strategy Development: Develop and implement long-term business strategies to ensure the viability and continued success of the consulting team within construction.
  • Forecasting Accuracy: Regularly review and update CRM, Elate and other dashboards to ensure that monthly and quarterly forecasts are accurate and aligned with financial targets.
  • Revenue Maximization: Focus on maximizing revenue while minimizing expenses and inefficiencies within the team.
Team Development
  • Staffing and Turnover Planning: Develop a 1 to 3-year plan for staffing, forecasting employee turnover, and planning for potential hiring needs. Ensure the team’s structure supports both short-term and long-term business objectives.
  • Growth and Scalability: Collaborate with the VPof Consulting Services to implement strategies for growth and scalability within the consulting team, ensuring the organization can handle increased demand while maintaining high standards.
  • Leadership Development: Cultivate a leadership pipeline within the consulting team. Groom and mentor future leaders to ensure sustainable growth and leadership continuity.
  • Team Management: Oversee the day-to-day management of the consulting team. Ensure high performance, provide ongoing mentorship, and facilitate personal and professional growth for each team member.
  • Recruitment and Headcount Management: Approve and interview new hires while maintaining headcount within the financial constraints set by the company.
  • Performance Management: Continuously monitor and manage the performance of the consulting team. Address performance issues and provide necessary support to optimize individual and team effectiveness.
  • Human Resources Coordination: Work closely with HR to document team concerns and serve as the accountable contact for any HR-related issues or inquiries.
  • Communication: Act as the conduit for important company communications and updates, ensuring that the consulting team remains informed and aligned with company goals.
  • Culture and Engagement: Actively drive company culture within the consulting team. Foster a positive, collaborative environment that supports employee engagement and retention.
  • Consulting Challenges Resolution: Serve as the final decision-maker on all consulting-related challenges, ensuring that problems are addressed promptly and effectively.
Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s Degree (required); MBA (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of the AEC industry, including its challenges, trends, and evolving technologies.
  • Proven experience managing a team of consultants or professionals within the AEC/BIM space, ensuring performance and career development.
  • Experience in staffing, performance management, and resource planning to optimize team capabilities and deliver client solutions.
  • Strong business acumen, able to understand and navigate business needs, challenges, and opportunities.
  • A strong strategic vision with the ability to understand both technical and business aspects of BIM/AEC services.
  • Adaptability and a passion for innovation in the rapidly evolving AEC and BIM spaces.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time for client meetings, conferences, and business development activities.
The salary range for this position is $150,000 – $200,000 OTE depending on experience.
