The Mixed Reality Optical System TPM will lead development of the display and optics subsystem in Meta's next generation immersive Mixed Reality device. The role requires leadership across a broad set of interdisciplinary teams, and is the 'tip of the spear' both externally with our suppliers and internally through Devices leadership.
Technical Program Manager, MR Optical System Responsibilities:
- Lead display and optics product development teams and activities to design, build, test and ship the 'Optical System' into mass-production.
- Collaborate with and lead a diverse set of cross functional teams in scoping and requirements definition, identifying and managing program constraints, and mapping development plans against program risks with strategies to enable success.
- Operate at different levels of abstraction, from high-level strategic planning (technology selection, organizational structure, commercial partnerships, investment) to tactical project management (prioritization, schedule creation, milestone definition and execution, and deliverables management).
- Manage projects with suppliers and partners, from authoring statements of work to driving final deliverables in collaboration with support functions such as Operations, Business Development, Legal, and Procurement.
- Evaluate suppliers' capabilities to meet product requirements, partner with ops team to establish a robust and scalable supply chain strategy.
- Breakdown the complexity of technical programs to enable a clear understanding of scope and deliverables to a wider audience of team members and support functions.
- Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and communication issues and drive creative solutions to address them and manage risk.
- Expect to travel domestically and internationally

- Bachelor's degree in optical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science or a similar technical field.
- 4+ years as a program manager (or related role) leading complex technology development programs.
- Experience leading and partnering with vendors and contract manufacturers.
- Experience leading teams through a phased product development lifecycle.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, shipping and ramping product into high volume manufacturing.
- Experience communicating technical information to non-experts, at all levels of the organization.
- Experience building, coordinating, and maintaining schedules across multiple teams, and managing shared resources to lead successful technology development programs.
- A high EQ with experience motivating, influencing, and resolving conflict amongst a cross-functional team.
- Experience presenting information into the most salient points to move a team / initiative forward.
- Prior experience developing optical systems and modules, including cameras, projectors and other opto-mechanical assemblies
- Experience driving large diverse teams toward a common goal, mediating conflict, aligning plans and communicating outward and upward
- Advanced manufacturing experience, including automation, high-precision assembly, class-100 clean manufacturing

$167,000/year to $230,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
