The Physical Modeling team at Meta is dedicated to solving complex problems that are at the intersection of physical sciences, engineering, computational statistics, computer science, and mathematics. We collaborate closely with various research and engineering teams, with those focused on data centers and infrastructure, AI research, and social/environmental impacts.As a Research Scientist on our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, such as numerical modeling of data centers, designing advanced control systems, developing environmentally friendly materials, and monitoring CO2 capture efficiency methods using AI to name a few.To succeed in this role, you should have experience working with various engineering and science disciplines, statistics, and computational concepts. Research Scientist, Modeling Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and research scientists to identify business opportunities directly relevant to Meta's infrastructures and products
  • Rapidly iterate to identify the optimal and deployable approach with a high chance of achieving the desired business outcome
  • Implement appropriate modeling techniques to deliver effective solutions in multiple domains
  • Interpret and communicate results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders within the team and other business units
  • Adhere to best software engineering practices, identifying and utilizing the most suitable internal and external tools and libraries
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6+ years experience post PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Physics, or Applied Mathematics or any other computational engineering discipline.
  • Fundamental understanding of physical laws, numerical modeling techniques, advanced control systems, signal processing, and/or the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
  • Software engineering skills, and code development for research applications
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Modern control design approaches and various system interfacing paradigms (e.g. multi input multi output controllers, etc.)
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics, finite volume, multi-body, multiscale, multiphysics simulation, surrogate modeling
  • Familiarity with data centers, preferably hyperscale datacenters
  • Familiarity with industrial thermal management systems and/or energy grids

$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
