Reality Labs (RL) is a world leader in the design of virtual reality systems. We are currently seeking innovative Research Scientist Interns with a passion for technology to develop next-generation soft robotic systems at our research location in Redmond, WA. These roles are focused on the research and invention of novel polymer manufacturing techniques. In particular, we welcome PhD students in mechanical engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or similar fields. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. Some projects may require a minimum of 16 consecutive weeks.

  • Research next-generation lithium ion cells with an emphasis on both theory and physical embodiment of the new concepts. The position will have an emphasis on fundamental scientific and engineering questions related to advanced lithium ion cell design that inform new concepts and the perceptual impact of those concepts.
  • Collaborate with the larger Reality Labs Research team and provide creative leadership on active material technologies.
  • Write and publish high quality scientific articles.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in the field of Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant technical fields
  • 2+ years experience with developing physics-based (COMSOL/ANSYS) and data-driven models for electrochemical applications. While not required, experience in lithium-ion modeling is a plus.
  • Programming and data visualization (e.g. Python or MATLAB) skills.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 years+ experience with standard lithium ion cell tests and data analysis (ie. EIS, CT analysis, dV/dQ analysis, cycling storage, storage test, floating test, etc).
  • Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored publications.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
  • Intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
  • Availability for minimum 16 consecutive week internship.

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
