Product Cost Engineer

The Sustaining Product Cost Engineer (PCE) is the Single Threaded Leader (STL) for mass production (MP) product cost from Ramp through End of Life (EOL). As the voice of the product portfolio's financial health, the PCE is responsible for modeling and communicating the cost tradeoffs associated with MP product decisions and influencing these decisions to ensure Reality Labs (RL) is optimizing MP cost performance. The PCE is responsible for coordinating with cross functional Operations teams to develop cost optimization plans, drive execution, and subsequently report out plan updates and performance against targets at Leadership Reviews. They will have a strong technical understanding of the product and combine this with a customer-centric mindset to engage with cross functional teams and challenge decisions. In collaboration with Sourcing and Hardware teams, the PCE will also own the supplier plan of record (SPOR) making updates as needed and identifying postmortem feedback for future generations.

Product Cost Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for setting and driving cross functional teams to meet BOM+MVA, CapEx, and OCOGS cost targets at the product and commodity level
  • Track actual costs versus targets and coordinate with cross functional stakeholders to develop cost optimization plans to close these gaps and achieve targets
  • Outline, report and track all program risks & opportunities related to product cost and execute to program completion
  • Lead cross-functional cost reviews to report out actual versus target cost, risks and opportunities, and cost optimization plan updates for each product
  • Work with both GSM and Engineering to drive updates to a product's SPOR as needed and identify postmortem feedback for the next related product's SPOR
  • Drive the supply chain and operations teams to provide detailed cost reduction forecasts that enable you to meet and exceed your product goals
  • Track CapEx actuals to budget and identify opportunities for CapEx reduction and reuse on future products
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing & Operations Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a product cost management role
  • Knowledge of product features/specifications, BOM cost categories, operations and supply chain
  • Cross-functional working experience to drive a program
  • Problem solving, analytical and communication experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite: Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SQL
  • Experience navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple work threads to maximize impact
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree, MBA
  • Experience working with key commodity management or CM/ODM management
  • Knowledge in ERP and PLM tools
  • Experience in competitive analysis, should cost, and design to cost methodologies

$134,000/year to $196,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
