Meta is seeking a Principal Product Design Engineer to join our Mixed Reality team. This role is pivotal in tackling the most challenging mechanical design problems we face, designing and developing complex mixed reality headsets that balance ergonomics, performance, aesthetics, and usability while maintaining the highest quality standards. You will be responsible for mentoring and guiding the engineering team from a technical standpoint, contributing to the overall technical capability of the team. This role will also support forward-looking pathfinding design problems in addition to complex mechanisms, subassemblies, assemblies, and advanced architectures.

  • Design and Development: Tackle challenging mechanical design problems, develop complex mixed reality headsets, and balance ergonomics, performance, aesthetics, and usability.
  • Technical Mentorship: Mentor and guide the engineering team, enhancing the overall technical capabilities and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Pathfinding and Innovation: Support forward-looking pathfinding design problems, develop advanced architectures, and innovate on complex mechanisms, subassemblies, and assemblies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, content designers, user experience researchers, data scientists, and product growth analysts, to deliver high-quality experiences across markets, platforms, and product surfaces.
  • Project Management: Oversee multiple projects, scale design resources accordingly, ensure deadlines are met, and set clear and measurable goals for team members.
  • Talent Development: Develop design talent, build a thriving culture where engineers grow in their careers, and foster a strong sense of inclusion and belonging.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a proven track record of contributing to the successful inception, ideation, development, and launch of consumer products.
  • Technical Expertise: Expert in CAD and an experience grasp of manufacturing processes and materials, as well as DfX
  • Collaboration: Experience working collaboratively with Product, Engineering, Design, Content, and User Research teams.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of mentoring and developing engineering teams.
  • Innovation: Demonstrated experience to innovate and solve complex design problems.
  • Analytical Skills: Experience organizational and analytical skills, with the experience to drive strategy and execution.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bonus points for experience in AR or VR consumer products.
  • Experience using Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Six Sigma Certification.
  • Demonstrated experience working in CM, JDM, and ODM/OEM development models.
  • Experience with simulations tools (FEA, CFD, etc.).

$204,000/year to $281,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
