Meta is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join Fundamental AI Research (FAIR), a research organization focused on making significant progress in AI.In this role, you will contribute to advancing the state-of-the-art in cognitive science, psychology, natural language processing, and artificial intelligence. Your work will involve conducting research to deepen our understanding of human social interactions, cognition, and behavior, as well as developing and applying machine learning algorithms to model complex social phenomena. You will collaborate with our team to produce new, open science that advances language modeling research and contributes to the development of innovative AI technologies that have the potential to transform industries and improve people's lives.This is a one to two year fixed-term position that offers the opportunity to work with a talented team of researchers in the field of AI.

Postdoctoral Researcher, FAIR Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and apply machine learning algorithms to model complex social phenomena, including human social interactions, cognition, and behavior.
  • Invent or improve novel data-driven paradigms with a focus on developing socially aware agents, investigate benchmarks and novel metrics to evaluate emotional intelligence.
  • Design and evaluate novel architectures for socially aware agents that can learn from human social interactions, adapt to changing social contexts, and exhibit advanced social intelligence in dynamic scenarios.
  • Develop methods to align language agents with human values, such as empathy, fairness, and respect, to ensure that they behave in ways that are beneficial to individuals and society.
  • Investigate complex social dynamics, such as persuasion, negotiation, conflict resolution, and opinion formation, to develop more sophisticated models of human communication and improve the performance of socially aware agents in these contexts.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in the field of Artificial Intelligence, in a related field, such as Neuroscience, Philosophy, or Sociology, with a focus on understanding human social interactions, cognition, and behavior, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Experience in cognitive science, social psychology/neuroscience/data analysis with applications in social computing, or related field.
  • Experience in training and use of language models and Transformers.
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as publications at leading AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR), cognitive science (e.g., CogSci, IJCAI), and NLP (such as CoLM, ACL, NAACL, EMNLP).
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated Research Experience in Cognitive Science and AI including experience in research related to cognitive science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or human-computer interaction.
  • Background in Developing and Applying Machine Learning and Deep Learning Techniques, experience in developing and applying machine learning and deep learning techniques to model complex social phenomena.
  • Experience with Human-Computer Interaction and Social Computing involving experience in designing and evaluating interfaces, evaluation metrics, that support human social interactions, as well as understanding the social implications of technology.
  • Research Experience in Social Psychology, Neuroscience, or Related Fields, which includes experience in research related to social psychology, neuroscience, or other fields that inform our understanding of human social behavior.
  • Experience with Programming Languages such as Python
  • Familiarity with Data Analysis and Statistical Modeling, experience in data analysis and statistical modeling, including working with large datasets and developing models to understand complex social phenomena.

$117,000/year to $173,000/year + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
