We are seeking a Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join the newly-founded Display Engineering China team. As an Opto-Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in the region to accelerate the development of opto-mechanical modules and systems for displays of AR glasses and smart glasses. You will be responsible for in-region engineering development and build execution, arranging from simulating complex opto-mechanical systems using 3D CAD software, testing designs to validate performance and functionality, and driving engineering iterations in factories from engineering builds to high-volume production.You will serve as a point of contact in China in the opto-mechanical domain, working closely with cross-functional teams across integration, process, optics, EE from multiple engineering orgs and various partners in the OPS org across time zones. Your background in mechanical and optical engineering principles, combined with your passion in AR and smart glasses will enable you to make a significant impact on the development of cutting-edge AR and smart-glass display technology.

Opto-Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with module and system designers to design and simulate opto-mechanical modules and systems using 3D CAD software for AR and smart-glass display applications
  • Collaborate with integration engineers and XFN partners to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA)
  • Support concept development from engineering builds to high-volume consumer product solutions across supply chains in the region. Troubleshoot and debug issues related to opto-mechanical performance, and drive the corrective actions on site
  • Drive the on-site verification and validation of opto-mechanical KPIs to meet specifications of each build at modules/system. Drive vendors to Improve KPIs' performance and iterate specifications through the engineering build phases.
  • Drive the verification and validation of various fixtures for tools and equipments, and drive the iterations on site when necessary
  • Lead and guide international suppliers to execute opto-mechanical tasks, ranging from various builds to offline DOEs and prototypings, and scale their capability to support more product programs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, especially the teams in the USA to enable productive and efficient work models across time zones.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of opto-mechanical engineering and manufacturing in high-volume consumer electronics product development.
  • Knowledge of material properties of plastics, metal, adhesive, glass, PCBA, and flex circuit.
  • Knowledge and application of GD&T techniques and knowledge of associated metrology approaches.
  • Knowledge or integration and related equipment development ( mechanical alignment, computer vision, active alignment, etc. )
  • Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (Stamping, machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.).
  • Knowledge of optics component miniaturization, mounting, interfaces, and adhesive bonding.
  • Knowledge or optics manufacturing techniques (glass lens, plastic lens, coatings, molding).
  • Extensive experience in 3D CAD software (eg, NX), FEA analysis tools (eg, ANSYS) and physical prototyping.XFN collaboration experience across multiple disciplines including optics, process, EE, etc.
  • Project management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8+ years of opto-mechanical engineering and manufacturing in high-volume consumer electronics product development
  • Experience in testing and analysis (FEA, Simulation, etc.).
  • Experience in display/Optics product development and/or manufacturing.
  • Experience with mass production of systems requiring high accuracy optical alignment.
  • Experience delivering multiple successful consumer products to production from concept inception to shipping product.
  • 6-sigma experience (Green Belt).
