Network Engineer, Deployment & Support

As part of our global Edge & Network Services (ENS) team, you'll play a critical role in deploying and maintaining one of the world's largest and most complex edge and backbone networks. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and make a real difference in the way people connect and share information. As an individual contributor on our team, you'll have the chance to work on all aspects of networking at Meta, from design and deployment to operation and maintenance. You'll be part of a team that's building and operating one of the world's most advanced networks.

Network Engineer, Deployment & Support Responsibilities:

  • Provide root cause and corrective action leadership to resolve design, deployment, and operational issues across network design, hardware platforms, and vendor performance
  • Spearhead research and development of cutting-edge technologies and network topologies to optimize network deployments
  • Proactive identification of problems and implement effective and efficient solutions across highly cross-functional infrastructure teams
  • Work closely with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure issues are being addressed proactively across global sites. Participate in cross-organizational design reviews and make recommendations to support operational strategy
  • Develop and execute six-month to multi-year roadmaps aligned with business strategy and transformational goals across Edge, Backbone and Data Center stakeholders
  • Support multiple stakeholder organizations by understanding, anticipating, and influencing business outcomes
  • Align on workflow management tooling requirements, efficiency, and automation roadmaps
  • Leverage data to influence business and network health metrics
  • Continuous improvement of service level objectives and metrics
  • Manage key vendor relationships, including contract negotiations, pricing, and evaluation of current and potential partnerships
  • Coach and develop other engineers and managers on the team
  • Lead by example, build team chemistry within regions, and develop credibility and presence for the ENS team both locally and globally
  • Ensure proper controls are implemented for financial budgets and prioritization assignment across teams
  • Help develop and maintain resource plan modeling across direct teams
  • Make independent decisions on issues/activities that have a critical impact or influence on Network operations and deployment
  • Provide input to the scaling and evolution of the team to meet projected network demands
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement by implementing actionable recommendations derived from internal surveys (Pulse), driving change and enhancing the workplace experience
  • International and domestic travel may be required 25% to 40% of time based on project demand

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of work experience with designing, deploying, and/or operating large-scale network infrastructure
  • 10+ years of work experience with structured cabling and fiber optic infrastructure including design and installation best practices, industry standards, application and limitations
  • 5+ years of work experience partnering with enterprise and service provider network hardware platforms and architectures, such as Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Nokia, and Arista platforms
  • Knowledge of the data center design, construction, and start up/commissioning processes
  • Project Leadership: Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving large-scale data center projects at strategic and tactical levels
  • In-depth understanding of Network Protocols TCP/IP, IPv4/v6, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, and/or MPLS via network certifications, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate/Cisco Certified Network Professional, Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate/Juniper Networks Certified Internet Specialist, Red Hat Certified System Administrator or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrate Intermediate level subject matter expertise in terrestrial telecommunication networks including Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing, network infrastructures, optical testing, and optical measurement principles
  • Experience successfully collaborating across their own team and with cross-functional partners at all levels to include organizational leaders to influence, align, and execute on goals
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading and managing technical teams as both an Individual Contributor and a people manager
  • Experience partnering with Original Device Manufacturers (ODMs) for network hardware platforms and architectures to engage and translate performance issues into requirements
  • In-depth experience of network protocols - IP/Optical-Transport
  • Experience in organizational and digital transformation initiatives at both the strategic and tactical levels
  • Demonstrate knowledge of inside/outside plant cable design and dark fiber builds
  • Experience working with onsite construction teams and managing contractor
  • Data center design or relevant telecommunications certifications

$191,000/year to $271,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
