Manager, Network Operations & Support

Meta is looking for a forward thinking people manager with technical skills in production network operations to join the Edge and Network Services (ENS) Operations organization. In this role, you will lead initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability, and risk management via process, systems, and data in one of the largest scale networks in the world. The right candidate will thrive in a fast moving operations organization and enjoy digging into complex operational and reliability challenges in order to implement process and technical system solutions at a global scale.

Manager, Network Operations & Support Responsibilities:

  • Manage team of engineers responsible for providing root cause analysis and corrective action leadership to resolve all operational issues found across edge and backbone architectures and hardware platforms.
  • Communication: Communicate cross-functionally across various teams, organizations and internal and external stakeholders (Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, Traffic, Logistics, Program Management, and hardware partners) to drive infrastructure operations development and management.
  • Performance Management and Coaching: Sustain high team performance via ongoing engagement around team member responsibilities, priorities, performance expectations, and development planning to optimize an individual's performance.
  • Team Building: attract top talent and fill gaps in the existing team quickly to accommodate growth.
  • Roadmap Ownership and Strategy: Own the planning and execution of an organizational-level roadmap and strategy to deliver business outcomes.
  • Collaboration and Partnership: You will also participate in cross-organizational design reviews and make recommendations to support operational strategy to include business or technical problems that need to be solved.
  • Business Ownership: Represent the organization and manage interaction with third parties such as hardware, colocation, telecom carrier, and managed service partners.
  • Project Leadership: Lead highly cross-functional infrastructure projects and programs in a matrix organization covering a range of areas (data center, production network, infrastructure, logistics, supply chain, compliance, legal, and software system engineering).
  • Risk Management and Assurance: Work internally and with upstream partner teams to ensure design, build, and operations align to applicable reliability, security, privacy, regulatory policy, and business continuity drivers.
  • Operational Leadership: As an operations practitioner within the team you will be expected to drive improvement in everything we do. In this role you will indirectly manage the activities of a large contingent workforce responsible for delivering road mapped projects and executing on recurring activities. You will drive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies.
  • Travel: International and Domestic travel may be required up to 15%.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • People Management: 5+ years of direct experience managing managers and organizations.
  • Partnership: Experience successfully collaborating across a global team and with cross-functional partners (e.g. physical infrastructure & network design, engineering, strategy, security, policy, and legal) at all levels to include vendor service delivery managers, individual contributors, and people managers.
  • Operations Center Experience: 5+ years of direct leadership experience within a global Network Operations Center or IT Operations Center environment to manage Service Level Agreements and continuous improvement against metrics at scale.
  • Vendor Partner Experience: 10+ years experience partnering to translate performance issues into improvement plans with enterprise and service provider vendors such as network hardware platforms (Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, and Arista), ITAD vendors, logistics vendors, and colocation vendors.
  • Repair Function: 5+ years of logical troubleshooting and physical repair with an understanding of physical infrastructure such as cable types, connector types, optic types, racks, patch panels, power/cooling, hardware components, and facility infrastructure.
  • Prioritization: Experience managing from the front to prioritize and drive the bigger mission forward by translating strategy into results.
  • Network Protocol: Basic knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4/v6, Border Gateway Protocol, Intermediate System to Intermediate System, Open Shortest Path First, and/or Multi-protocol Label Switching in complex troubleshooting scenarios. Cisco and Juniper Professional level or equivalent experience.
  • CDN and Edge: Basic knowledge in CDN & Network Services, peering network strategies, including topology, traffic analysis, linux operating systems, hardware platform, and architectures in complex troubleshooting scenarios.
  • Business Metrics: Experience identifying key metrics/measures that will be used to evaluate success and validate the business impact of the program
  • Software Systems Practitioner: Basic knowledge and direct experience implementing configuration changes on systems for monitoring, alerting, and repairing networks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Risk and Assurance Management: experience in operational compliance, physical & logical infrastructure security, and/or business continuity disciplines.
  • Automation: Basic knowledge coding and automating in higher-level languages such as Python, Go, or JavaScript.
  • Optical and Transport: knowledge in terrestrial telecommunication networks including DWDM, network infrastructures, optical testing, optical measurement principles, and experience with photonic layer in complex troubleshooting scenarios.
