Linguistic Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that converges linguistics and technology to design and optimize systems that process natural language and multimodal input. As a Linguistic Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of linguistic engineers in designing and developing datasets, models, and representations across languages, knowledge, and evaluation systems that drive our AI multimodal assistant. You will communicate a clear vision, mission, and strategy for your team, aligned with organizational objectives and key business outcomes.In collaboration with cross-functional teams, you will drive the development of innovative solutions, leveraging experience in dataset creation/collection, evaluation methodologies, and model enhancements to advance AI products, including Large Language Models. A key aspect of this role is leadership and talent development, fostering an environment of collaboration and guiding team members to success.

Linguistic Engineering Manager Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive Linguistic Engineering roadmap, aligning with organizational AI objectives and deliverables.
  • Strategically plan and implement technical initiatives to advance AI voice assistants programs.
  • Drive projects from conceptualization through launch and beyond with continual improvement and support.
  • Drive advancements in conversational AI systems across the full AI-Assistant stack.
  • Oversee project timelines, resource allocation, and team staffing to ensure timely and successful delivery of projects.
  • Clearly communicate with project stakeholders and collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams.
  • Communicate complex technical information, changes, risks, and results with utmost clarity to executive leadership, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Provide expert technical and scientific guidance to team members and partners, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing.
  • Mentor and nurture the growth of linguists and managers to amplify their contributions.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive environment, promoting an environment of mutual respect, continuous learning, and growth.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of work experience as data scientist, software engineer, computational linguist or in similar role.
  • 3+ years of experience directly managing a team of data scientists, software engineers, or computational linguists or similar.
  • Experience with programming and data analysis with languages and platforms such as Python, Jupyter, and SQL.
  • Experience in shipping and evaluating AI/ML-based products.
  • Experience with text analysis, scripting, relational database, No SQL databases or similar.
  • Experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with other internal and external teams.
  • Experience shipping multiple products across various platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of work experience as data scientist/software engineer/computational linguist, with experience in conversational AI, conducting scaled experiments and evaluations tied to product/user experience improvements.
  • 5+ years of experience directly managing a technical team.
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience managing technical teams as part of a consumer-facing application.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the relationship between data and large language models.
  • Experience with larger scripting projects that involve combining language data from different sources, computing complex metrics over large datasets, etc.
  • Experience designing and conducting data experiments.
  • Familiarity with version control, unit tests, and other programming best practices.
  • Proficiency in additional languages.
  • Master's or PhD with a specialization in Computational Linguistics, AI, speech programs, natural language processing, or machine learning, or related fields.

$155,000/year to $215,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
