As a Linguistic Engineer, you will apply your knowledge of linguistics and natural language processing to determine language needs of diverse AI projects, setting the strategic vision for data-based model improvements, working with cross-functional partners to create consistent language products across dialects and languages. You will use your analytical experience, track record of crafting clear and concise, emails, reports & documents, collaborative skills, and personal drive to achieve team goals. Your experience of using in-depth subject-matter knowledge will enable us to build AI models that are robust, fair, safe, and scalable across form factors, modalities, and languages/markets.

  • Provide subject-matter knowledge in the areas of data collection/annotation/synthesis, quality measurements, model quality support, and other linguistic or AI areas.
  • Identify best practices and improve procedures across teams to achieve outcomes in better/faster/cheaper ways
  • Anticipate language- or data- based problems before they occur.
  • Identify or design novel pathways to accelerated data production and QA.
  • Lead initiatives that will inform and accelerate product roadmaps.
  • Clearly communicate your feature/product-recommendations with program stakeholders.
  • Establish best practices to measure fairness of models across different linguistic groups.
  • Consult product development from the linguistic engineering POV with scalability across form factors, modalities, and languages in mind
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Data Science, related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 8+ years of work experience as data scientist, software engineer, computational linguist or in a similar role.
  • Experience in various areas of linguistics, computational linguistics, AI / Large Language Models, data science, product development.
  • Experience with programming techniques and with programming languages such as Python, SQL.
  • Experience scoping, prioritizing and directing the work of other linguists.
  • Experience designing and conducting language or multimodal data experiments.
  • Experience with efficient data collection/labeling and evaluation projects.
  • Track record working on or leading cross-functional efforts, initiatives, or projects, actively influencing products or product roadmaps
  • Experience collaborating in large-scale, highly collaborative projects
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of the relationship between data and machine learning models in order to increase linguists' impact on ML projects.
  • Experience with larger scripting projects that involve combining language data from different sources, computing complex metrics over large datasets, etc.
  • Familiarity with core data processing techniques and tooling (including version control, unit tests, and other programming best practices).
  • Fluency or working proficiency in two or more spoken languages.
  • Experience with responsible AI approaches, enabling and preserving privacy, safety, integrity, and fairness.

$155,000/year to $215,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
