Legal Ops and Outside Counsel Manager

Meta Legal is looking for an experienced Legal Ops and Outside Counsel Manager to proactively identify challenges and opportunities, design appropriate solutions, influence stakeholder buy-in, and drive execution of impactful change in one of the most dynamic in-house Legal teams.This position is a individual contributor role and will involve managing and supporting programs across the range of areas supported by the Legal Ops and Outside Counsel Management teams. The ideal candidate will exhibit flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs, have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment and work proactively with various teams across the organization, including Legal Technology, Project Management, In-house Counsel, Outside Counsel, HR, and Finance.

Legal Ops and Outside Counsel Manager Responsibilities:
  • Design and development of programs and operations that drive impact and efficiency for Meta's Outside Counsel Management (OCM) programs
  • Operational execution of programs related to OCM, both on regular cadence and on an as-needed basis
  • Manage programs that will include elements of scope and fee negotiation, standard and alternative fee structures and firm onboarding or offboarding
  • Conduct elements of related financial management, including but not limited to budgets, billing, payments, and credits or refunds, from the matter level to the firm and/or internal in-house team level
  • Drive analysis of and derive insights related to overall budgets, budget vs. actual performance, categorical spend review (e.g. regions, practice groups, firms, major matters) and influence impactful data-based decisions with leadership
  • Support projects that may include either new program launches or significant improvement initiatives, including efforts that span: objective setting, scope definition, stakeholder analysis, milestone setting, work-breakdown structures, stakeholder buy-in, management of working group meetings and status updates, management of change requests and scope creep, and early testing, feedback gathering and design change, and post-launch iterations
  • Contribute to overall strategic planning and road-mapping efforts
  • Support any broader team and/or departmental process and tooling changes that affect our in-house counsel and/or our outside counsel
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable company and departmental policies and procedures
  • Support counsel related cultural initiatives, which may include summer associate programs, DEI related initiatives, pro-bono efforts, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.A. or B.S. degree
  • 10+ years' working in Legal Operations and Outside Counsel management or similar experience
  • Experience in proactively identifying opportunities and driving execution of changes that support a Legal dept with fast-paced growth and scale
  • Experience successfully partnering with senior attorneys and influencing senior leadership
  • Experience with metric driven processes and technology improvements, and a resiliency to dynamic environments and change
Preferred Qualifications:
  • J.D. or MBA degree
  • Financial acumen, negotiation and pricing experience
  • Legal industry, law firm or in-house Legal Operations experience
  • Experience supporting various ad-hoc legal related ad-hoc requests
