Meta seeks a someone to serve as Lead Litigation Counsel for the EMEA civil litigation team, focusing on privacy-related litigation. You will be joining the EMEA wide disputes team to work on privacy issues. You will be part of a team acting on high-profile, precedent setting civil litigation across the EMEA region focusing on complex, multi jurisdictional claims, class actions, and novel litigation, wherever it arises in EMEA. As part of the role, you will partner closely with other legal teams and internal stakeholders from across the business, helping to set strategy across key areas. You will partner closely with others and collaborate across the company. You will use exceptional legal judgment, and manage a significant docket of complex litigation in more than one jurisdiction. You will develop and coach other team members, build systems and processes to increase efficiencies in workflows and provide executive and board level updates and advice.

Lead Litigation Counsel Responsibilities:
- Help to formulate and execute on complex privacy litigation strategy in relation to matters pending before national and international courts across EMEA.
- Assess legal, practical and business risks arising from litigation independently, quickly and accurately and present this advice to legal and non-legal audiences. Input into product-based decisions will also be required.
- Partner and coordinate with key internal stakeholders such as other legal teams, public policy and communications colleagues, business and product teams.
- Manage Outside Counsel relationships across a busy docket including with a material oversight on costs and reporting.
- Meta requires all employed attorneys to have a law degree or equivalent certificate to permit the practice of law and be appropriately licensed and authorized to practice law for the company in their assigned work location. Unless prohibited under local law, an attorney must hold a current practicing certificate (including where required from the relevant authority in the jurisdiction of the assigned work location) or the local law equivalent bar registration or license as may be applicable.
- Qualified, and currently practicing law, in at least one European jurisdiction.
- At least 5 years post-qualification litigation experience, with a focus on privacy law.
- Demonstrated litigation experience across multiple jurisdictions. If you are in private practice, you should work in a relevant litigation department. If in-house, you should work on litigation as a core part of your role.
- Experience running litigation across multiple jurisdictions is a necessity.
- Experience drafting and presenting
- Fluency in English
- Fluency in another European language
- Experience litigating in civil law jurisdictions in Europe
- Experience dealing with class and/or mass actions and matters before higher and/or appellate courts, ideally
- Experience in working in a collaborative, fast paced environment and make sound judgments under tight deadlines with thoroughness and accuracy.
- Experience drafting and proficiency in explaining complex technologies in concise and accessible ways to complainants and courts of all levels are a must.
- Prior experience working with technology companies or in house
- Passion for and understanding of technology
