We are seeking a highly accomplished display optical engineer to join the Display Engineering China team. As an display optical engineer, you will play a critical role in productizing multiple display optical technologies that are central to delivering transformative experiences for AR and smart glasses. You will be responsible for tackling and solving complex display optical challenges in factories and labs, evaluating and improving display performance of various modules and systems, driving testing strategies at factories, iterating the display specification throughout the phases of engineering and mass production to deliver great customer experience. You will be driving factories and suppliers to execute the engineering builds and bridge the gap between proof-of-concept to mass production.You will serve as a point of contact in China in the display optics domain, working effectively with cross-functional teams including optical designers, optical process integration, metrology, opto-mechanics, operations, and suppliers across time zones. Clear and effective communication is essential to remove barriers and ensure seamless collaboration across teams. Display Optical Engineer Responsibilities:
- Drive the execution of display engineering builds on-site in particular, identify display risks, track and resolve issues through various phases of engineering development and production.
- Serve as gatekeeper for display performance across modules and systems at factories throughout the engineering build phases.
- Verify and validate the display performance, drive the failure analysis of display/optical performance gap across display supply chain, and drive corrective actions to improve performance and customer experience.
- Support the iteration of module-system specification allocation and convergence using build data and DoEs, and advanced analysis. Resolve discrepancies and ensure alignment across all levels across factories and supply chains.
- Perform data-driven tolerance analysis and manage performance budgets of optic modules, balancing manufacturability, cost implications, and system-level KPIs to optimize overall system performance.
- Develop and derive new performance indicators at both component and system levels to quantify new display artifacts and develop corresponding specs.
- Lead display optical discussions in factories and serve as the display and optical interface between multiple functions (Metrology, process engineering, reliability engineering, Tech Ops, metrology).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, especially the teams in the US to enable productive and efficient work models across time zones.
- Lead and guide international suppliers to execute display optical tasks, ranging from build execution, offline DOEs and data analysis, to scaling suppliers' capability to support multiple product programs
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Display Engineering, Optical engineering, Optics, Physics, Optics, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience: 10+ years of optical engineering experience in high-volume consumer electronics product development.
- Optics Knowledge: systems design, Imaging, Illumination, Radiometry and photometry, Physical and geometric optics, Polarization optics, optical coating.
- Production Experience: Successful track record of delivering display modules or display systems into mass production
- Experience in optical manufacturing, display or camera module, metrology, lens assembly, Polarized Beam Splitter (PBS), Beam combining assembly, optical thin film
- Experience performing and designing DOE, data analysis, SPC control, yield improvement, root cause investigation, FACA, and quality control.
- Experience in working with display suppliers, and familiar with ODM/JDM model
- Optic Design: Experience in optic design simulation, tolerancing, and stray light modeling of display module or system
- Tools: Proficient in one or more simulation and analysis tools, such as ZEMAX, TracePro, Lighttools, CodeV, statistical tools JMP, Matlab, or similar programs
- Collaboration and Ambiguity: Proven experience to handle ambiguity and collaborate effectively with large cross-functional teams and multilayer supply chains.
- Advanced degree in the field of Display Engineering, Optical engineering, Optics, Physics, Optics, or a relevant technical field.
- Experience in image quality analysis and metric development.
- Experience in bringing up first generation technologies into device form factors
- Experience with multiple full life cycle AR/VR product launches.
- Experience with end to end display module development, from components to system and balancing the performance and cost
- 6 sigma experience (Green Belt or Black Belt).
