Job Description
We are currently seeking a Laboratory Animal Resources Scientist to join our collaborative, dynamic, and inclusive Laboratory Animal Science Team at the West Point location. The successful candidate will be integral in planning, designing, and executing in vivo pharmacokinetic (PK), radiolabeled ADME studies in rodents and non-rodents, as well as some routine veterinary and animal colony management tasks. These internal studies are key in supporting preclinical projects across our company's research portfolio. On-site and hands-on study-related lab work will be a crucial part of the role. The role also requires rotation weekend work and the ability to apply sound technical skills to assigned tasks, often with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the planning, design, and execution of in vivo PK and radiolabeled ADME studies in rodents and non-rodents.
- Promote and uphold a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the laboratory, actively contributing to an environment where all team members feel respected, included, and can perform at their best. Perform with minimal supervision technical aspects of discovery and basic science animal studies, referring only to supervision for consultation/guidance on variations from protocols and suggesting possible alternative methods of approach.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and well-organized records of animal treatments, study data, procedures, inventories, research protocols, and reports.
- Carry out research and medical treatment regimens for research animals under the guidance of the Veterinarian.
- Express an interest to assist in or conduct presurgical, aseptic surgical procedures and perioperative care.
- Administer injectable and inhalation anesthetic agents under the guidance of a veterinarian.
- Under supervision, independently recognize study/project hurdles (operational, technical and scientific) and propose solutions.
- Work independently and be proactive in seeking opportunities, while also contributing positively to team dynamics.
- Manage study timelines and objectives, ensure accuracy of study data within corporate databases and project tracking tools.
- Communicate study results and data interpretation to cross-functional project teams.
- Comply with US and our company's specific rules and regulations, e.g., Animal Welfare Act, The Guide, 3R principles, FDA and other regulatory bodies.
- Accountable for contribution to project Team or sub-team, may manage/led a small project team.
- Supports activities in the areas of cost containment, efficiency, productivity, energy conservation, waste minimization, operational excellence, and lean practices.
Qualifications:
Minimum education required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher, in a relevant science field or equivalent education (expected completion by December 2024).
Required experience and skills:
- Demonstrable passion for animal care and welfare.
- Eager to learn technical and scientific skills and a comprehensive understanding of the R&D process.
- Ability to follow procedures and thoroughly document data collection results.
- Competency to independently recognize challenges (technical, scientific, or study-related) and provide relevant input for solution/problem solving.
- Proactive, innovative, and solution-oriented mindset.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Commitment to maintaining high safety and regulatory standards.
- Willing to work weekends on rotation.
- Certifications (desirable but not required): e.g., CVT, ASR, ALAT, LAT, LATg, CMAR, etc.
