Job Description

Our Company Research Laboratories in South San Francisco is a premier research hub designed to foster collaboration between scientists to discover new medicines to improve human health. Retinal and Vascular Biology group within Cardiometabolic Disease Therapeutic Area is seeking a driven and creative Scientist to join our drug discovery team. This is an exciting opportunity to directly contribute to drug target identification and validation activities in close collaboration with colleagues in Biology, Chemistry and Biologics teams at our Research & Development Division South San Francisco and across broader our Research & Development Division network.

The ideal candidate will be an independent in vivo scientist with minimum of 3 years of industry experience with high level of motivation and dedication to lab experimentation with excellent comprehension of ocular biology. This position requires demonstrated proficiency in in vivo ophthalmology skills and flexibility to support in vitro assays and models in industry discovery research.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute experiments for target identification and validation utilizing in vivo ophthalmology disease animal models
  • Directly contribute to drug discovery efforts to address high unmet medical need in ophthalmology
  • Learn and establish novel platforms and technologies to advance drug discovery efforts

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's (with 3+ years) or Master's degree in cell biology, molecular biology, neuroscience or related biological discipline and relevant professional laboratory research experience listed below

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Extensive hands-on experience handling laboratory animals (mice and rats)
  • Technical expertise and experience in pre-clinical in vivo ophthalmology including retinal imaging techniques (fluorescein angiography, optical coherence tomography), retinal functional assays (electroretinograms) and ocular injections
  • Experience in handling and processing ex-vivo tissue samples for downstream in vitro analysis
  • Proficiency using data analysis and visualization software such as Excel, GraphPad Prism and Spotfire
  • Ability to independently design, perform, troubleshoot, and interpret biological experiments
  • Strong motivation and passion for science
  • Commitment to experimental excellence and scientific rigor
  • High level of organizational skills to support multiple projects in matrix environment
  • Excellent oral presentation and communication skills

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Hands on experience with building in vitro biochemical and cell-based assays utilizing state-of-art technologies

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Expected US salary range:
$102,800.00 - $161,900.00
