Purpose of the role

The Director, Global Policy Platforms and Events is responsible for developing Global Public Policy (GPP)-wide strategies and tactical plans for engagement within key multilateral platforms, including the G7/G20, OECD and for a targeted set of annual global policy events, including World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, World Health Assembly, UN General Assembly, BIO International Convention, and Conferences of Parties on Biodiversity and Climate aligned to business priorities and risk mitigation plans. The Director will work across the GPP organization to proactively identify key platforms and events where GPP and senior leader engagement with key policy stakeholders on policy issues will advance our business priorities. The Director will serve as an expert on these platforms and advise the GPP LT on where and how to engage and will coordinate GPP-wide planning for engagement in these platforms and at these events, working closely with the Executive Director and Director Multilateral Engagement and Global Public Policy. The Director will be responsible for coordination of briefing material preparation for senior leadership meetings with government officials and other key stakeholders and participation in sessions at key events, working across GPP and with country teams.

Welcome to the team

Reporting to the Executive Director, Multilateral Engagement and Global Public Policy, the Director will establish and maintain close relationships with organizational partners that can facilitate access to these platforms and provide ongoing actionable intelligence on key policy issues that are being deliberated in these fora. This role will contribute significantly to the development of the annual Executive Team policy engagement plan. The Director will also be responsible for developing internal and external communications strategies for events and platforms in collaboration with Corporate Communications and for tracking KPIs on outcomes of these engagements.

The role is based in US (Washington, DC, Upper Gwynedd, PA, Rahway, NJ) or Switzerland (Zurich, Lucerne, Geneva), and requires travel to engage with international organization leaders and government officials at multilateral and global policy events.

Primary responsibilities:

  • On an ongoing basis, proactively identify global policy event platforms and events, assess the potential for impactful engagement in these fora, and make recommendations to ED, AVP for critical engagements. Develop business cases for resources as needed.
  • Events: Execute a coherent global-to-local multilateral engagement agenda for key policy-focused events including the World Health Assembly, Davos, UN General Assembly, and Conferences of Parties (COP) on Biodiversity and Climate aligned to business priorities and risk mitigation plans. Work across GPP and with country policy teams, communications, and HH as needed. Serve as GPP focal point on broader Corporate Affairs planning teams for relevant events.
  • Platforms: Lead strategy development and engagement planning for key policy platforms, including G7/G20, OECD working across the GPP organization and country policy teams as relevant to develop and execute a One GPP approach that is aligned to the annual GPP priorities and achieves critical business and policy objectives.
  • Establish and report KPIs for engagements in these platforms and events as part of quarterly and annual strategic planning and evaluation processes for the GPP organization.
  • Provide regular communication and analysis to GPP, senior leaders, and cross-functional teams on key policies that are likely to be under consideration in multilateral platforms and events to inform business strategies and policy priorities.
  • Manage consultants, vendors, and partners as required.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree preferred.
  • Accomplished public affairs professional with at least 10 years' experience in multilateral events and platforms.
  • Deep understanding of multilateral platforms, including G7/G20, OECD, APEC, and effective advocacy partners with influence in these platforms.
  • Superior diplomatic protocol skills and experience.
  • Detailed-oriented with extensive experience in project management and event planning for policy-focused engagements. Ability to manage time-sensitive, competing priorities and adjust plans quickly to deliver successful engagements in changing policy environments.
  • Agile professional with ability to inspire and lead task teams without authority.
  • Willing and able to work in a dynamic environment and possess an innovative spirit.
  • Effective in collaborating with people at all levels of an organization and willing to contribute wherever needed.
  • Verbal and written fluency in English. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to develop new, innovative ways to influence policy deliberations in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 15-20% per year.
