Position Overview - Basic Functions & Responsibility
Essential function(s) includes, but is not limited to:
Operational shift team lead, responsible for daily emergency response, safety, and security functions. Provides site-wide fire protection and Hazmat response coordination. Conducts scheduled and random inspections of all plant areas of fire, life safety, and security interest. Daily functions include responsibilities for loss prevention, security, emergency response, project support, facilities maintenance and other service areas. Conducts fire and security audits, surveys to test existing controls, and evaluates risks involving protection of tangible and intangible company property. Enforces company regulations concerning security of company property, plant access, traffic control, parking, and employee conduct.

Primary Activities
The primary activities include and are not limited to the following:
- Conducts investigations into and evaluates odor complaints, chemical spills, fire/smoke conditions, alarm notifications, and other emergency response protocols.
- Performs routine fire inspections, fire system shutdowns and fire panel resets, fire fighting and fire protection equipment tests and provides instruction of fire fighting and fire protection personnel. Operates and maintains programs and systems associated with plant security and fire protection.
- Inspects buildings in the plant as follows: fire hazard checks for presence of proper fire protection and emergency equipment; scheduled fire pump and fire extinguisher inspections.
- Performs initial assessment and investigations for smoke, odor chemical and biological spills, or any abnormal situation as directed by the Emergency Services Supervisor or designee.
- Can provide direct mitigation pending the toxicity level of the spill, especially on the off shifts. Provides assistance during chemical cleanup.
- Will act as a Security contact, guide, and assist potential security incidences on site.
- Will direct, conduct and coordinate training for personnel, emergency operations and community support with department and volunteer members.
- Responsible for plant site fire, spill and assist with security response.
- Inspects tests or replaces hose in all buildings and fire trucks and records or reports test results as required.
- Supports training exercises for the Emergency Response Team and to our Company employees on the use of various types of fire extinguishers as required.
- Provides specialized training as listed in the master training schedule or as instructed.
- Performs maintenance work on fire fighting and fire protection equipment such as: rotating and inspecting fire extinguishers, reporting and correcting minor defects found in the course of inspection and testing programs.
- Assures fire trucks and powered equipment are tested in accordance with departmental guidelines and fire fighter gear is in proper operating condition at all times.
- Maintains good housekeeping in all areas associated with his/her responsibilities.
- Performs additional site emergency support activities as needed, such as equipment displays, ventilation, wash downs, tests using fire water, and site medical emergency support.
- Perform elevator and confined space rescue if required.
- Work with outside agencies responding to the site during emergencies.
- Able to work under cGMP guidelines unless directed differently due to an emergency.
- In the event of general plant emergencies after normal operating hours, serves as Incident Commander maintaining compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (q) (6) (v) and NFPA 1561.
- Responsible for taking immediate action to protect personnel, facilities, records, materials, and to notify pertinent personnel as soon as possible.
- Maintains operating logs and data to ensure productive, well documented equipment and system performance.
- Responsible for building effective working relationships by collaborating with others. Consults with and advises appropriate departments to assure that sound engineering assistance is provided to projects and plans to assure conformance with environmental requirements.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of the sites badging system; be able to trouble shoot the system and able to acknowledge and properly respond to all potential or actual alarm conditions.
Skills (include specific skill levels required to apply our Company Leadership Principles)
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to work on several assignments at the same time with a wide range of contract and our Company personnel at all levels of management.
- Candidate must be able to operate effectively and efficiently in high stress situations, must be able to work both indoors and outdoors and must be able to work in all different types of weather conditions.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Firefighter I, II or III
- Emergency Medical Technician certification
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a professional or volunteer firefighter
- Candidate must be physically capable of performing the tasks of the job .
- Experience in using Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook
- Experience in using web based programs
- Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends. Must be able to work overtime to cover open shifts as required.
Preferred Experience:
- Additional education from a CHEA Recognized Institution
- Firefighter NPQ
- Hazmat Technician
- Confined Space Rescue
- High Angle Rescue
- Fire Instructor I, II or III
- Certified in NFPA 25: Inspection, Maintenance and Testing of Water based Fire Protection Systems.
