Summary, Focus, and Purpose:
Small Molecule Science & Technology (S&T) is responsible for providing scientific and technical support for commercial and pipeline products across Global Pharmaceutical Operations' internal sites and external networks. The organization comprises site-based Technical Operations groups, above-site commercial product support organizations, commercialization groups focused on the development and launch of new products, and Centers of Excellence (COEs) that provide deep subject matter expertise across our company's portfolio of products, supply chains, and sites.
The Chief of Staff for Small Molecule Science & Technology (SM S&T) will report to the Vice President of SM Science & Technology and be a key member of the SM S&T Leadership Team. The Chief of Staff will contribute to the leadership of a diverse group of subject matter experts who facilitate all organizational and strategic activities within the department. These activities include developing and executing functional strategies, managing critical initiatives, overseeing portfolio management, budgeting and profit planning, communications, competency building, talent management, change management, and business operations to fulfill the department's mission. Additionally, the Chief of Staff will help ensure alignment across Global Pharmaceutical Operations regarding strategy and operations, as well as coordination with Global Science Engineering and Commercialization.
Key Functions:
Strategy Execution Management:
- Lead the SM S&T Leadership Team in developing, executing, and monitoring strategies for supply and commercialization activities.
- Ensure organizational alignment and coordinate the establishment of execution plans and priorities.
- Lead and organize overall change management networks for the department.
- Design and execute organization-wide communications and engagement efforts.
Organizational Improvement Initiatives Coordination:
- Coordinate the identification, prioritization, and scoping of improvement initiatives across the business to enhance effectiveness, operational efficiencies, reduce lead times, and lower costs.
- Manage the overall improvement portfolio, ensuring that initiatives have appropriate sponsorship, execution plans, and change management to facilitate installation and realization of benefits.
Ownership & Coordination of Organizational Business Processes:
- Oversee SM S&T financial processes to manage the development of profit plans and ongoing spend management related to personnel, technology, and drug development.
- Organize and facilitate talent management activities, in partnership with HR, across SM S&T, including succession planning, people development, and calibration.
- Guide the organization through the development of priorities and objectives, along with ongoing performance reviews and reporting.
Chief of Staff Responsibilities for SM S&T:
- Work independently and collaboratively as a team member, embodying integrity, precision, accomplishment, motivational ambition, respect, and inclusion.
- Ensure effective planning and facilitation of departmental leadership team sessions, meetings, and forums.
- Manage and coordinate engagement and communications across the organization.
Building Competency & Fluency Around Key Business Improvement Methodologies and Tools:
- Coordinate workforce planning activities for SM S&T to ensure that our organizational structure, composition, and capabilities align with the business's future direction.
- Manage the deployment of mindsets, methodologies, and tools associated with our Ways of Working and key organizational competencies.
Minimum Education Requirement and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a Scientific or Engineering discipline (B.S.) with ten (10) years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
Required Experience | Skills | Knowledge:
- Effective and principled verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing science and technology activities.
- Familiarity with strategy development and execution.
- Expertise in developing strategies that align manufacturing operations with business goals, focusing on cost reduction, increasing throughput, and improving product quality.
- Experience defining and tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of production strategies and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments to ensure strategic alignment and effective execution of operational plans.
Preferred Experience | Skills | Knowledge:
- Experience with the deployment of Lean/Six Sigma and other business improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge and experience with management science tools and techniques, such as portfolio management, organizational design, balanced scorecards, competitive analysis, performance measurement, and business metrics.
- Knowledge of change management principles and techniques to effectively guide organizational transformations as strategies are developed and implemented.
- Expertise in driving change by clarifying intent, managing delivery, and engaging people in realizing goals.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

The Company is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this job in certain states and cities within the United States. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate's relevant skills, experience, and education.
Expected US salary range:
$164,800.00 - $259,400.00
