Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT Expert to join our team to support and optimize the technology infrastructure of our high-volume, large distribution center. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in managing and maintaining warehouse automation systems, including tools like pick-to-light systems, high-speed conveyors, and OPEX automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS). This role requires expertise in ensuring seamless system integration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of the automation processes that drive our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

System Maintenance & Optimization:

  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of warehouse automation systems, including pick-to-light systems, high-speed conveyors, and ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems).
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues related to automation tools, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Collaborate with warehouse operations to ensure the automation systems align with business objectives and operational goals.

System Integration & Support:

  • Integrate automation systems with warehouse management software (WMS) and other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to hardware, software, and network configurations.
  • Provide technical support and training to warehouse staff and operational teams on system usage, upgrades, and troubleshooting.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyze automation system performance data to identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and increased throughput.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in system design, technology solutions, and operational practices to improve overall warehouse efficiency.
  • Participate in pilot testing and rollouts of new automation tools and technology within the facility.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, maintenance logs, troubleshooting steps, and operational procedures.
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, incidents, and improvements for management review.
  • Develop and update training manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for automated systems.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including logistics, operations, and engineering, to ensure the smooth integration of IT systems into daily warehouse functions.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for system upgrades, troubleshooting, and equipment installations.
  • Provide expert technical advice and support to improve overall warehouse automation capabilities.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Relevant certifications in warehouse automation, IT infrastructure, or industrial control systems (e.g., OPEX, PLC programming, or similar) are a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in IT roles with a focus on warehouse automation, ideally in high-volume, large distribution centers.
  • Extensive experience working with pick-to-light systems, high-speed conveyors, and Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), particularly OPEX or similar technologies.
  • Proven experience in system integrations between warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and automation hardware/software.
  • Strong background in troubleshooting automation technologies, including hardware failures, network issues, and software problems.
  • Demonstrated experience in optimizing and improving warehouse automation systems to drive operational efficiencies.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems and PLC programming in an automated warehouse environment is highly desirable.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including networking (LAN, WAN, wireless), cloud technologies, and databases.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and maintaining IT systems used in warehouse automation, including both hardware and software components.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, or similar programming languages to extract and analyze performance data.
  • Knowledge of system monitoring and diagnostic tools for managing automated systems.

Additional Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on fast, practical solutions in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders, including technical teams, operational managers, and external vendors.
  • Ability to stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in warehouse automation and IT.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications or training in automation technologies (e.g., OPEX, TREW, PTL)
  • Familiarity with cloud-based automation management platforms and data analytics.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies like Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen in an automation context.

Work Environment:

  • This position will be based in a high-volume distribution center environment, requiring the ability to work on-site and occasionally during non-standard hours to support automation system maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • The role may require physical activity, including site inspections and equipment troubleshooting.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$145,700 - $242,900
