We’re looking for a Senior Counsel - Commercial to support our growth teams as they continue to expand our business and work with new employers in the US and abroad. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, this position is critical to our ability to meet Maven’s ambitious growth goals. We need an agile, efficient, and pragmatic business partner who can work cooperatively with our growth team to negotiate client contracts. We need someone who is operations-minded to help us identify opportunities to contract more efficiently, whether through changes to our templates, new processes, or using innovative new technology. We are a lean team, and so we also need someone who can roll their sleeves up and assist with a wide range of work, including vendor agreements, helping the growth team answer questions about our product offerings, and working with other legal team members to update our terms as our products evolve.
To make our mission a reality, your skills will be accountable for:
- Act as a strategic business partner to review, draft, and negotiate on a range of commercial agreements, particularly focusing on our agreements with customers and vendors
- Serving as the primary legal contact to our growth teams
- Create and manage templates, playbooks, and one-pagers relevant to our offerings
- Work with Legal Ops to manage our intake process and our contract management system
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience supporting a sales team, and negotiating high volumes of complex commercial contracts
- A J.D. and admission to at least one state bar
- 7+ years of legal experience
- Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset
- Efficiency-minded and process oriented, with an interest in building and improving scalable processes that ensure you are spending your time on the right matters
- Engaged and excited to help accelerate the growth of a dynamic, fast-paced company revolutionizing the healthcare landscape
- Strong analytical and problem-resolution skills with the ability to balance business needs with legal risks
- Independent and self-reliant, and able to effectively triage and prioritize high-value work while communicating to set appropriate expectations with business partners
- Not afraid of adhering to metrics, process improvement, and workflow management
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with high growth companies and start-ups
- Digital health or telehealth experience
- Experience with data privacy (particularly negotiating Data Processing Agreements and Business Associate Agreements)
- Law firm and in-house experience
- Google Docs, Ironclad, Asana, and slack familiarity
- Sense of humor
For candidates in NYC, CO, or CA, the base salary range for this role is $210,000 - $245,000 per year. You will also be entitled to receive stock options and benefits. Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, and skillset.
